Dark Deadgrass 3 mos. male CBR puppy - Chesapeake Bay Retrievers in Orlean, Virginia - Hope Springs Farm

MEET KEEF, a gorgeous dark deadgrass male Chesapeake puppy that is retrieving on land and water, LOVES birds, not gunshy, exposed to duck calls, boats and decoys, and is whistle trained. He's also crate trained, house broken (as well as can be expected for 3 months!) and is very good at puppy obedience. Here's a recent photo of this handsome puppy:

Keef is from a litter that we fully intended to keep one for ourselves as it's an outstanding and unusual cross of two very productive and attractive lines of Chesapeakes. But in September, shortly after the litter arrived, we had a devastating house fire that forced us to make some hard decisions about how many dogs we could keep while we deal with the insurance process. This puppy has probably one of the best and most unusual field pedigrees you can find in the breed, with none of the heavily used most popular sires of the past decade. This makes him a complete outcross to almost every living field bred Chesapeake, especially on the East Coast. An ideal outcross for all Decks, Canvas, Distagon, Rudy and/or Blaze bitches.

Keef is a product of a frozen AI breeding from the outstanding light deadgrass dog, Manhatan's Shotgun Chief MH WDQ (Yukon Jay's Stone E MH x CH Manhatan Shotgun Annie MH) out of CH Puffin II JH CD WDX (Chestnut Hills Ironwood Oak MH***WDQ x Jezebel of the Hollow). Chief is now 13 and no longer breeding. Because of his age, he has some old field champions close up in his pedigree that were not bred much on the East Coast--FC AFC Rock Honeybear of the Yukon, FC AFC Aleutian Surfbreaker and FC AFC S&S Sunshine Sally, to name a few. Puffin is a daugher of Woody, a good field trial performer and producer that is becoming known as a 'broodmare' sire. Woody daughters have sired many of the current top field trial Chesapeakes including CH Crackshot's Ben There Done That***, Crackshot Blackwater BMW*** and WW Buttons Sly MacGregor***.

The puppy himself is an outstanding representative of the breed--beautiful big blocky head, thick, heavily waved coat, correct angles, scissor bite, good tail set; he resembles his dam Puffin, who is a poster child for what a Chesapeake should look like. He's bold and inquisitive, loves birds, has been exposed to gunfire; he walks on a loose leash obediently, has been retrieving on land and water since 6 weeks,  comes running to a whistle (imprinted since birth) and is crate trained. He also rides in a vehicle with no whining or carsickness. Parents have all clearances and Keef had ENS done, dews removed, wormed regularly since 2 weeks, and has had all 3 puppy shots. He LOVES to retrieve birds or bumpers on land and in water. In sum, this is an outstanding puppy and sire prospect and we would like him to go to a home that will develop his full potential.
