LET OUR DISASTER BE YOUR GAIN--Usher is for sale to a good home only.

PLEASE do not bother to call if you are looking for a kennel dog/stud dog only, we want Usher to live inside as a family dog since he does not do well in a 24/7 kennel situation.

This is a real fire sale--we had a devastating house fire in September at Hope Springs Farm, which has forced us to make some hard decisions including selling some dogs. Lightning struck the main house which burned to the ground. Fortunately no one was hurt, but we are still awaiting insurance settlement so we need to reduce the herd, dogs and horses.

So I regretfully offer for sale Usher, aka Hope Springs Hush Hush, my gorgeous 2 year old stud dog prospect. It was my hope to make him into a CH/MH. He's a striking, rare ash gray color and has a magnificent Chesapeake coat: heavily waved, thick outer coat with wooly undercoat. He's tall and leggy as he still has some filling out to do. He stands 25 inches at the withers and has a big broad head with pretty little show dog ears. The ash is a beautiful eye catching shade of deadgrass and it makes unbelievable camo, too--he blends right in.

Usher was a slow maturing, puppyish young dog and thus we waited til he was 9 months for force fetch. He was sent to a top field trial pro in Pennsylvania, Randy Bohn, who did a beautiful job with the FF and CC. Usher loves his work, he's got a nice soft mouth with no chomping or sticking issues. He's been FTP, sits on whistle, T & TT, pattern blinds, swim by, and is just starting to put all that together doing cold blinds. He's steady and does multiples and has been exposed to calls, boats, decoys etc., he's been dove hunting and preserve hunting and is ready to waterfowl hunt with his new owner.

The best thing about Usher is his lovely disposition. He is a sweetheart, and makes a liar out of those who claim Chesapeakes are mean and/or hard headed. He gets along with all other dogs, including other intact males, little dogs and puppies. He LOVES people, he would definitely not make a good watch dog. We want him to go to a family situation, as he does not thrive in a 24/7 kennel situation, he gets very forlorn and depressed. He's well house broken, crate trained, and easily learned not to mark anything around the house/yard and Mama's garden.

Just look at this sweet face!

If you think you can provide the right situation for Usher, call Julie at 540/364-9480. He is offered for sale at $2800 which is a steal considering the amount of professional training he's had. I am willing to negotiate this for the right situation as I would love to get another litter sired by him down the road. Unfortunately he's too closely related to most of my current dogs. He's a sensitive dog, and while he's collar conditioned, he requires tactful handling as he is a worrier and gives 100 percent when he likes and trusts his handler; and does not do well with heavy collar use, harsh and/or unfair corrections.

His pedigree is here: http://www.chessiedb.org/cgi-bin/pedigree.pl?op=tree&index=9675&gens=5&regname=Hope%20Springs%20Hush%20Hush

I own his dam, Puffin and Usher is the 6th generation of Chesapeakes I've owned and bred. In general, I prefer females but this boy is one of the nicest male dogs I've ever had the pleasure to spend time with. If circumstances were different I would keep him, as he's a joy to live with. He's also sired 2 litters and throws absolutely gorgeous pups, including a few that are the same, unusual ash gray color as he is. I kept an ash gray female from his first litter that is now 8 months and she looks just like Dad. Breeding did not change his disposition one bit, he's always been very good around other intact males and he's never been a leg humper or any other rude male dog behavior.

If you think you can offer Usher the right home call me and we can discuss it.
