We were lucky enough to connect with Loura for a Chessie puppy years ago. She’s always taken an active interest in how Dakota is and made herself available for support or to answer any questions. I have had two Chessies over the years, a 110 lb male named Rex, whom we lost to old age in 2016, and Gina, a 75 lb female, still going strong at 13 years of age - both have been the most intelligent, wonderful, family oriented dogs we have ever had, and we purchased both from Loura at Ches-Shores - Loura loves her dogs and has done a great deal towards saving this breed, and she has always been there to support us with knowledge medical advice, and training. These dogs are smart, fearless, family dogs that also make great hunters and love the water!

We reciently bought a puppy from Loura. The puppy we got was exactly what we were looking for. He is healthy smart and beautiful. Working with Loura was easy. My Ches-shores male, Shelby is a year old and each day he continues to amaze me with how smart he is. He is a relentless tracker and loves to retrieve. He knows many commands and continues to learn. Anybody interested in the Chesapeake Bay Retriever breed should definitely do their research as it requires a lot of patience and self discipline to train them; however, it is a very rewarding journey as the chessie strives to please you. Ches-Shores CBRs have retrieving and swimming skills preprogrammed into their minds and hearts. Now that my beautiful Ches-Shores bitch has her confirmation championship we venture into field work: I acquired a book which she chewed disdainfully. I sent for training films that turned out to be completely unnecessary. This dog has great communication skills, along with swimming and tracking instincts that amaze me and my physicist husband. Any flashes of what the ignorant call "Chessie obstinacy" turn out to be the understandable (and usually correct) choice of action, i.e., avoidance of some hazard in the water or on a trail.

After months of counting down the days until our puppy was ready to come home to us, my husband and I traveled to Loura's to pick up our first male chessie puppy. Instantly we were in love with his sweet nature and wonderful playful spirit. Our puppy was totally at ease as Loura's very young daughter carried him around while we registered and took care of the paperwork. It was clear that these young puppies had been spending their time in the midst of Loura's family with exposure to children, sights, and sounds. Since then our chessie has been the love of our lives. He is serious, sweet, intense, comical, protective, physically tough, smart as a whip, with the memory of an elephant. He is absolutely emotionally connected and totally and completely devoted to his family.

Loura has been an invaluable resource for raising and taking care of our dog, well beyond the day we brought him home. When our dog tested positive for exposure to Lyme, and the vet's recommendation was to wait for more symptoms, Loura gave us clear and specific instructions, and after a month of antibiotics, our dog was symptom free and remains so.

When we decided to enter the world of conformation, Loura provided instruction and total support for us and continues to cheer us on as I strive to improve my handling abilities.

Loura's knowledge and love of this breed is unmistakeable. And she produced the wonderfully challenging and loving Chesapeake that we call family.

Loura has been very helpful and willing to answer any of my questions about raising and caring for a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Our Chesapeake Bay’s disposition is the greatest and in five years has become a Master Hunter and has qualified in field trials.
If choosing a breeder I would highly recommend Loura Wade.

If you aren't familiar with CBRs, I recommend researching the breed extensively before deciding to bring one (or more) into your family. These stubborn, intelligent, beautiful dogs need an alpha owner willing and able to give them daily activity and attention.

Once you make the decision to become a chessie owner, look no further than Ches-Shores Kennels. Loura is very knowledgeable about the breed and has been in business for decades breeding champion CBRs.

We currently have two house dogs from Loura: one male and one female. While we don't hunt either dog, both are very intelligent, great in the water, have a strong drive to retrieve, and neither exhibits gun-shy behavior.

I am hopeful Loura will continue to keep her kennel in operation for decades to come, because you cannot beat a Ches-Shores chessie.

We love our rescue chessie, Hershey. He did not like the water when we first brought him home; hence, his previous owner never took him swimming. But Loura and Joe said just go in the water with him and he will eventually go. Now we cannot get him out of the water. He is in the best condition ever and we cannot thank Ches-Shores enough for allowing us to have this magnificent obsessive water swimming chessie.

I just recently purchased a Chesapeake Bay Retriever male 10 week old puppy from Loura Waid, Ches-shores. This is my second dog from Ches-shores and these pups are top notch.
