J&L Boykin Spaniels - Wisconsin Boykin Spaniel Breeders

I lost my cocker Gus at age 15 a few years ago and decided to get another flusher to compliment my French Britt. I discovered J&L Boykins and after meeting with Larry in 2020 was certain that was the right breed for me. Then came covid, then came knee replacement, then Achilles tendon surgery, then time to support our old Cavalier end of life. Last February after I sold my company and moved towards retirement Larry called out of the blue and said he had a pup for me if I was still interested. It took me a couple seconds to decide yes and I picked up Hazel 6 weeks later. At 1 year old she is 35lbs of muscle and relentless no-fear prey drive, a retrieving maniac and a water lover. Her first wild Nebraska pheasant involved tracking a winged rooster 125 yards and returning it to hand. She is also the sweetest dog I've ever had with a never ending supply of cuddles and kisses. Getting a Boykin Spaniel from Jan and Larry was the best dog decision I ever made.

We met Larry when he was a patient of my husbands. They had so much in common with their love for hunting dogs. My husband had to have one of his dogs after hearing about them. Our Topaz is now 4 years old and a great dog! Unfortunately my husband passed away before he was able to go hunting with her but she has been the best companion and loves chasing birds(I don’t hunt!)
Larry & Jan have been fantastic to work with, they have taken care of anything I have needed for Topaz, or any questions. They stay in touch yearly with Christmas cards…true friends and dedicated breeders! Thank you both!! They are highly respected and recommended!!

We have had the pleasure of receiving two Boykins from J & L and can't say enough good things about Larry and Jan. They really went the extra mile with a great blood lines and the dogs never had any health issues. The support that we received after the dog was in our home was second to none. when it came to questions with training Larry was extremely helpful. We have had four dogs before we got the Boykins from J & L and the truly are a complete package dog that will do almost anything you can imagine. From hunting to fishing agility and yes jet skiing to being on the bike for a ride these dogs do it all just for the fun and to please there master. I've had a bird dog on my bucket list for quite some time and it didn't take me long to decide to go with J&L Boykins. I've had my Boykin now for two years and couldn't be more happy with him. I wanted to do the training myself and any questions I had Larry was more than willing and happy to help me out. He is guenuinlly happy to hear from you knowing you're working with one of his pups. On my second J&L dog. Couldn’t be happier at 6 months old. I’ve also trained many boykins and the J&L dogs are at the top of the list for temperament, trainability and just good sound gun dogs. I highly recommend Jan and Larry for a quality pup.

We purchased "Sam" from Jan and Larry in January 2023. Sam is my brother Ray's dog and his 5th Boykin. He trained, hunted and competed with his dogs prior to his brain injury. Jan & Larry hand picked this pup for my brother as he was able to do some training but really is a therapy dog for him and the entire facility where he resides. Their many years meticulously breeding these dogs and their knowledge of their personalities is on par to none. Having been raised in a dog breeding family (since the 60's) we knew as soon as we walked in the that this was an exceptional place. Not only was Sam an easy trainer, but he will retrieve anything at anytime, very intelligent. He also senses when to be calm to help my brother and those in the facility that need his "therapy". Exceptional breeders, exceptional dogs. May have to get one for myself.

I have owned labs all my life for hunting and wanted a dog that was smaller and good for the house, boat, and truck. I have never even seen a Boykin in person let alone one work. So needless to say I had a lot of questions with understanding what to look for as far as proven blood lines and health history and Larry by far helped me extensively in my search for a great dog that will meet my high expectations in a hunting partner whether it would had been one of his dogs or not. Obviously I went with the best I could find and I couldn't be more happier with my decision. My dog is everything I could dream of in a hunting partner and would say is even better than my labs I have owned! I highly recommend J&L Kennels, you won't find a more passionate, helpful, down to earth, honest couple that have highly qualified Boykin's!!!

I am very impressed with J&L Boykins and with Bella who was born almost a year ago. Larry was great to work with and always spent time with me on the phone when I called. I have never owned a dog before let alone trained one for hunting. I decided to do all the training myself and I can say it went great! Bella is so smart and the training was really easy. I mostly duck hunt and she is a natural swimmer. She has retrieved every duck I have sent her after and at 32 lbs now she has no problem even with Mallards. I would highly recommend a Boykin Spaniel for anyone looking for a small hunting dog that will overachieve. I also Highly recommend J&L Boykins. They have excellent dogs and they do everything right.

First and foremost we received an excellent hunting dog in our Boykin Spaniel from J & L Boykins. These truly are special dogs in the field, water, canoe, truck and in the home. Our boy works hard all the time and is always seeking to please. He does very well on upland and waterfowl!
I thoroughly enjoyed working with Jan and Larry and I appreciate his hard work in developing quality dogs. I appreciate he always returns an email or a phone call before and well after the pup left his kennel. I give this kennel a very strong recommendation!

I met Jan & Larry at Pheasant Fest in 2013. I had only ever owned Labs for my hunting but, it was time for me to start my search for another dog. My daughters wanted a small dog. I wanted a dog that could be used for hunting. After seeing their dogs and talking to them, I decided that the Boykin fit the bill. After several more conversations with Larry, I got on their waiting list for a puppy. While I was waiting for a pup, I was fortunate enough to attend some training days to watch the dogs work. I was very impressed with what I saw. I have known Jan and Larry now for a few years. You don't just get a dog from them, you gain an extended family. I have met so many great people because of them. They are breeding some the best dogs in the country and their dogs accomplishments speak for themselves. If you are looking for a Boykin, you owe to yourself to at least give them a call!!
