Observing the litter on a couple occassions and presenting them with pigeons to tackle and run about the kennel was as always great fun. The litter loved to chase clipped wing birds and pups were uniform in size and healthy.
My pup is now eight months old and progressing thru basic retriever training very well. I am very pleased with her. She is everything I look for in a hunting retriever/competition dog.

Just an update on the little girl that we picked up from Julie and Tim Higgins breeding program in December.
Gwen is now in her sixteenth week. Our vet is thrilled with her health, disposition and growth. She is beautiful of that we agree but we also would like to acknowledge her incredible intelligence level. She already responds correctly to all basic commands as well as some of the more unusual ones. She has the hand commands to sit, stay, and come as well. This morning in our daily training I left her in a sit stay in the kitchen while I hid an object in the other room for her to scent find. Each time I returned there she sat without moving! It only takes her seconds to find what I have hidden for her so I am now moving the object to more difficult locations. I have not stumped her yet, including hiding them under pillows, blankets and in a cabinet. She finds it, sits and waits for me to reward her. Very impressive!
We are the proud grandparents of four ranging in age from almost two to 13, from the first introduction to the children during the holidays she was extremely gentle. She lets them 'pet' her (using the term loosely given an almost two year old), she has never done anything but give them puppy kisses.
We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful, intelligent little girl to join our family. We cannot say enough about the commitment the Higgins have to making sure that they had the best start in life, as well as checking in to see that all is well with their placement and training. They care about their each of the pups even after they leave their nest. If you are looking for a great addition to your family be it for hunting, confirmation or as a companion we highly recommend Skookum Creek Chesapeakes.

Our Chessie Pup is now 3 months old, and what a delight he has been! Skookum Creek Chesapeakes, Tim and Julie, did a fantastic job selecting the sire/dame on the October 2011 litter. Our little fella has an amazing tempermant, is retrieving, sitting, staying, and walking quite well on the leash. Tim and Julie Higgins were very helpful as made the decision to select a Chessie. We were full of questions, both before and after we brought him home. They are friendly, professional and extremely knowledgable with this breed. We are very thankful to have had the opportunity to adopt one of their pups. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for that special chesapeake pup.

A three year search ended on October 14th when a phone call was placed to Tim and Julie Higgins of Skookum Creek Chesapeakes. Our search took us to many AKC dog shows as well as online searches of established breeding programs of gun dogs. It was not until we received a referral by another breeder that we found our new little girl.
I don't need to tell any of you that are looking for a dog no matter which reason you may utilize their talent a dog becomes a part of your family. Your first priority is to find a program that realizes their environment and their blood lines will help you have a healthy start with your new canine. A good begining for the pups can make a huge difference. You need to know that the breeders have their animals safety and well being at heart to begin with. You also, in this day and age, need to know that you can trust the breeder to assist you in selecting the right dog.
I was going to wait until I picked up our girl and had her home to make this recommendation however I felt that if someone was looking you should know that the Skookum Creek program is a program you can trust and should seek out. I consider it an honor to highly recommend Tim and Julie. They not only are salt of the earth type of people that you can trust but have the breed standards and their ability to perform the task they were bred for upper most in their program.
They searched and searched to bring what appears to be an amazing breeding together which produced our little girl, along with her littermates. Their program seeks the health and welfare of their line. All available measures were taken to ensure that this litter as well as others from their kennel have the best shot at being healthy through serious study of their pedigrees as well as pretests for health issues prior to the breeding.
When our little girl was five weeks I flew up to take a physical look at the litter. As I had expected they were beautiful and helathy. Through selection testing their temperments were fabulous and the only difficult task was picking only one to join our family! The entire litter was extremely healthy and well taken care of with constant hands on from the Higgins family.
They are as protective of their pups as I was being at selecting a program. Upper most in their mind besides the physical health of the breeding is producing a well tempered dog for hunt, conformation, service, obedience as well as a companion dog. Their concern is for the life of their dogs coming from their program not just 'breed and sell' as some places can be. They are concerned that the placement of their puppies are going into homes that are aware of the commitment to the animal allowing them a long and healthy life.
We will be bringing our little girl home in early December. I will update this recommendation but I can tell you that the intrigrity and honesty of this program is to be highly valued if you are seeking a quality dog and a new member of your family.
