Lehmschlog Kennels - Washington German Shorthaired Pointer Breeders

Lehmschlog Kennels was founded in 1983 by Clay Brown and his son Charlie. It started when, after completing a tour in the USAF Charlie moved back home to start his college education. Both Clay and Charlie were avid upland bird hunters, but due to circumstances found themselves without hunting dogs. Despite this handicap, they ventured into the field in search of the ring neck but found that not having dogs was about as fun as a root canal without Novocain. Determined to fix the problem Clay traded $75 worth of gift certificates for their first GSP Shotz Hunta Vom Lehmschlog, unknowing that this little pup would be the start of a world class GSP kennel. Over the next few decades Clay and Charlie found a change in their nature. Both went from avid bird hunters to avid dog lovers. This change caused both to focus on producing the very best upland bird dogs possible. In their mind that meant the dogs had to excel both in the home and in the field. Using competition to both locate good breeding stock and gage their dogs abilities. The two were able to fine tune the field aspect of the dogs. Although very successful in field trials and tests, gaining scores of wins and titles at both the local, reginal, and national level they felt that this is only one aspect needed, the home environment needed to be addressed. By placing dogs in good homes and maintaining contact with the owners, the home aspect of the dogs was also fine-tuned. Although breeding great dogs and improving the breed is a never-ending process, we believe we produce some of the best GSPs available. We also hold to the idea of placing pups in compatible homes to help insure a great outcome for both the owner and pup. So, if you call looking for a pup expect a lot of questions, and time as we love to talk dogs! Clay Brown is no longer with us, and his skill, knowledge and companionship are very much missed. However, his legacy continues with his Granddaughter Chelsea Spink. Chelsea's love of dogs, knowledge of breeding and the main breeding coordinator keeps us on the path of breeding great GSPs.
