We were involved with AKC brace beagle field trials for 20 years. We bred beagles and traveled across the country to attend trials. The one thing we couldn't do was hunt with them which led us to purchase our first GSP in 2004. This opened up a new world for us which included hunting trips out west and becoming involved in the AKC hunt tests and, ultimately NAVHDA where, thanks to the talents of our first GSP, we were able to make it all the way to the Invitational twice.
We bred our first GSP litter in 2007 and out of that litter we ended up with two very good hunting dogs while the other dogs from that litter also did very well. That started us down the road to take what we had and build upon it, leveraging the knowledge gained from breeding beagles over 20 years.
We mentor other people in our NAVHDA chapter and continue to move forward with training our dogs while introducing others to the sport. We volunteer at youth hunt events and other outdoor events to make young people aware of what these dogs can do with proper training and to show what upland hunting has to offer. We started waterfowl hunting which really put to use the skills that the versatile GSP brings to the table.
