About Rum River Wirehairs
Welcome to Rum River Wirehairs, we have been breeding dogs for over fifteen years. We breed German Wirehair Pointers and Pudelpointers. We love these two breeds for the great family temperament and goofball personalities, along with that on switch when its time to hit the field or pond to do what they were breed to do. We realize most of our pups are family dogs 90% of the time, and get to hunt 10% of the time with all of our busy schedules. We breed temperaments of our dogs to thrive in that family and home dynamic and hunt hard when its time to preform. We strive to improve the breed and have imported dogs from all over the world to have the strongest bloodlines available and keep the health of our dogs strong. We have dogs from Serbia, Australia, Russia, Sweden, and Ukraine. This keeps are strong bloodlines, proper coats, builds, and temperaments. Many breeders in the US are breeding the same old tired out lines that are way to close. And you see that in all the incorrect coats and builds of these dogs. Are lines are proven from all over the world with strong documentation. All our pups will go to our vet for a full vet check and shots before leaving the property to ensure you are receiving a health new family member. All dogs will have the tails docked and dew claws will not be removed. Dew claws are essential for a working dog and should not be removed. Studies have shown a massive increase in torn ligaments due to the removal of dew claws, and they also use the dew claws to climb out of water if they fall through the ice. Two year health guarantee with each pup, will the option for a five year health guarantee if you continue to use Alpha Dog Supplement with the pup. We have seen amazing results with our dogs and pups that have been on the supplement. Our dogs all get hunted hard, do some guiding, and get great socialization. I cannot say enough positive things about our experience with Rum River Wirehairs, and our dog Major, who will be 3 years old this February. Ryan of Rum River was friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely accommodating through the process of selecting a puppy. We met both the dame and sire on site before they were matched, and visited the pups several times before selecting our dog. Ryan runs a very nice operation, not too big, but not lacking anything necessary to produce top notch dogs.

As for our dog Major, she has grown into an incredible hunter after just two full seasons. She is an absolute natural and has taken to training very quickly. She’s great on pheasants, but has really impressed me going for grouse. She’s a beast in thick brush, and works hard for birds. She is also hilarious, and has a great personality. Aside from hunting, Major is great with other dogs and people, and has been coming to work with me everyday at a children’s museum, where she is beloved by the staff.

We will undoubtedly return to Rum River Wirehairs when it’s time to bring another pup home.

We bought a GWP from Ryan several years ago. Best thing we ever did. Our boy has natural retrieving instincts from the moment we brought him home (6 wks old?)
He is extremely smart and willing to please.
Hes great with other dogs and the grandbabies.
Working with Ryan was great. Hes very patient, friendly and produces top dogs. I would very highly recommend him.

This is a follow up on the testimonial I posted in 2013 on my pup "Burns" who was then 4 months old. He is now 4 1/2 yrs old. No doubt the most driven, hard working bird dog I've ever owned, as well as, my buddy. Overall health is excellent, no issues with things like hips, eyes, rashes, etc. We hunt Montana, South Dakota, Kansas, and Oklahoma. From pheasants to sharpies, to bowhites he excels! As far as retrieving, I'll quote the late Dr. Havilah Babcock, "A beautiful retriever," he wrote, "is like a virtuous woman. Her price is far above rubies. Retrieving....makes the difference between a good dog and a great one. It is the icing on the cake, the cherry atop the sundae, the lace on a brides pajamas." "Burns is no lady, but his value is far above rubies, for he is a great one! Go with Ryan if your looking for a man who breeds great GWP's.

I purchased a GWP from Rum River in November 2015, my experience with Ryan was excellent. We spoke several times prior to selecting a pup and his guidance and understanding of the breed paired me with the perfect gun dog. "Maggie" is ~1yr old and she has the drive to be a great gun dog and a personality that makes her an absolute joy to be around.

Great natural instinct and easy to train, overall I am completely satisfied and I have nothing that I could recommend to make my experience with Ryan and Rum River Wirehairs any better.

I purchased GWP almost a year ago and am very pleased with the entire experience. My dog is one of the best i ever had. High prey drive, excellent hunter and excellent family dog. His social skills and temperment are excellent. We cant say the word "bird" in our home without our dog running to the door and doing his happy dance.
I will purchase another dog from Ryan in the future. I highly recommend him. If you want a truly good hunting dog then i suggest getting it from Ryan.

I purchased a GWP from Ryan and I am extremely happy with my pup (Jack) (now 1.5 years old) and can't say enough about Ryan and his operation!
Ryan's passion, love and dedication to his litters, and their parents is top-notched. I interviewed several breeders during my search for a bird dog and travel companion. Ryan was by far, the most helpful. He answered my many questions and was extremely patient with me. There was no pressure and it was clear to me that Ryan wanted to make sure his dogs go to the right homes. He has taught me many things about the breed and bird dog behavior, that I can't wait to get another in a few years. He has also assisted me with Jack's training on several occasions and I can't thank him enough. My dog Jack has such a high prey drive, he points, he retrieves, he loves to swim, but most of all, he is great with other people, kids, dogs and even cats. I am blown away and very thankful to have met Ryan. His kennel is very nice, comfortable and clean and the pups have lot's of field yard to get their exercise and training. They even have live birds to train with! Jack's mom and dad (Max and Cheyenne) are world class pointers and have produced some amazing pups! Don't hesitate to call Ryan about his upcoming litter.

I purchased a Male Pup from Ryan from the December 2012 litter, I can honestly say it is the best dog I have had in years. I have trained both, for my use as well as others over 12 Goldens and numerious labs. Hands down "Gus" my new wire hair has been the easiest to train, Very smart! at 4 months he was complete house broke and 95% obedeient trained. At 4 1/2 months i introduced him to guns as well as wild ND phesants, again outstanding. I highly recomend Rum River Wire Hairs. I purchased a Wirehair pup from Ryan in December 2012. I have never met Ryan, but dealt with him by phone and email. He was very honest, pleasant, and punctual in answering my questions and concerns.The purchase and transport of my pup went as smooth as humanly possible.
I've owned different breeds of bird dogs my whole life and at four months old, "Burns" may potentially be the best I've ever had. His prey drive, intelligence, and disposition are exceptional! When it comes to looks and personality, he's loaded with both!
I highly recommend Rum River Kennels!
