Shooters Shorthairs - Michigan German Shorthaired Pointer Breeders
About Shooters Shorthairs
We (Pete & Lisa / Shooters Shorthairs) decided that as soon as
we were married, one of the first things we were going to do was to
purchase a dog. The breed wasnt decided at that time so the search
was on. We read books, talked to people and did a lot of research to
decide what type of dog was right for us; we decided on getting a
German Shorthaired Pointer. Little did we know how important that
decision was for us, and it was probably one of the best things we have
ever done.
That was back in 1989 and since then we
have owned, bred, shown and hunted over some outstanding shorthairs.
Our dogs are not a commodity; they are our companions that give their
all
.all the time. When we breed a litter we research pedigrees,
performance ability and temperament to come up with the best match
possible to produce dogs that will exceed our expectations of an
exceptional companion in the home and dependable partners in the field
(or woods). We have high standards for our dogs but by being selective
in our choices, we have been successful and consistent in our breeding
program.

If I could vote a "10" that would be my choice. Pete and Lisa were the breeders that produced my greatest birthday present ever; Tia, in 1995. "Shooters Made for Scimitar" I cry as I write this, as Tia crossed over the Rainbow Bridge 1 week after her 15th birthday, December 2010. That was the first time she ever listened to me; I made her promise me that we would share her birthday. I want to credit Lisa And Pete (and Pearl) with bringing the most cherished little lady into my life. Tia was so special to m that I could never think of replacing her. Her remains are on my work desk. Thank you Lisa and Pete for my Tia-Taliesha-Marie Osman-Hawkins!

Owe, I forgot the most important part for the hunting and show folks: Tia got her championship title at the age of 2! JH title around the age of 4. She could work a bird field all day if Mick would let her. She always out hunted our Gordons, she was super-scented on pheasant and woodcock!

We are the proud owners of a 5 year old female named Shug or Shuggie. Shug has been an outstanding member of our family and has been an amazing pet for our 3 year old daughter. Shug is retired from hunting and lives happily in Clarkston. Thank you to Pete and Lisa!

I have a 4 year old male out of one of Pete and Lisa's male "Woody". I have seen all of Pete and Lisa's dogs and have been privileged to hunt behind some. I have watched their dogs train and work birds for several years. They breed first class gun dogs. However, first and foremost these dogs are family. They excell in both field and water work and are a joy to be around. Some of their dogs have vistied our home and were exceptionally well behaved. Pete and Lisa have a passion for raising great looking dogs which can do it all. You will not be dissapointed with one of these dogs.
