"Murphy"
We got Murphy from Castello Brittany's twelve plus years ago. We called them based on a suggestion from another breeder that had gotten their Dual Champion from them. They had two boys left from the litter and told us we could pick between the two of them. Amy picked Murphy because one of the pictures of him sleeping was really cute. (Note that might have been the last time he slept for 6 years.) Amy met up with the Castello's outside of Chicago to pick him up. He was 13 weeks old at the time and full of life. He didn't make a peep on the way home and has been a really great traveler ever since.
Murphy has been an awesome dog for us. He ran field trials as a young dog and was quite successful as a puppy. We spent a lot of time working in the field but decided to move on to other things that were more accessible for us (hard to trial without horses and help). With that, we had to find new things for him to do. Murphy finished his show championship relatively quickly. We then started doing agility and obedience with him.
Murphy's best attribute is that he is an extremely hard worker. He loves everything about working and will attack whatever you are doing over and over again with a smile on his face.
In Agility, Murphy mostly competed in the CPE realm where he did very well. He completed his C-ATCH title (highest in CPE) at age 11 and at age 12 he finished his second C-ATCH.
In Obedience, he cruised through the first couple level of obedience (CD and CDX) and after retiring for a brief period of time to focus on agility, he finished his Utility Dog (UD) title. This is kind of a big deal in the obedience world and even more so for a Brittany to do this. All the way through his time in obedience he made judges smile and laugh. They loved his personality and his desire to work. It is not something they typically see in a non-traditional breed in obedience.
Murphy has continued to be one of our gun dogs in the fall and has always been very successful for us. He is like the energizer bunny when there are birds and impresses all the people he hunts for.
Finally, we can't say enough about the Castello's as breeders. We have never had more supportive people that we have gotten a pup from. They have been absolutely terrific with us over the years. We can't recommend them highly enough. We're sure we will be back for at least one more when the time comes!
