I have purchased 3 Portuguese Pointer pups over the past 12 years and all have turned out to be some of the finest hunter's I have ever owned during my 40+ years of breeding bird dogs. i just found this sight. and wanted to say a few things about rodney and his pointers. our family purchased a female pup from rodney 3 1/2 years ago. we had several bad experiences with other breeders. when i stumbled upon rodney. ive had several hunting dogs and found that we wanted a portuguese pointer. rodney was terrific to work with and very informative with us .explaining the characteristics and personalities of this breed. purchasing this pup from him was the best breeder experience ive had to date. we love our dog to pieces. she is awesome in the field with birds and we will be getting another one from him later as she ages some more.we and every one that comes into contact with our dog loves her and is astounded at her hunting ability. and how well she is around people and other dogs.i cant say enough about rodney and his dogs.i recommend hunters and families to rodney’s breed when asked and will recommend to any hunters this is the hardest working and most committed to please hunting /family dog ive had bar none. and i want to thank rodney again for the wonderful gift he has allowed our family to have.

After having a bad experience with a different breeder in Stonington, CT, we were lucky enough to find Rodney Mello. He communicated well with us, throughout his dogs pregnancy, and sent us updates on all the puppies after they were born. We chose a female, who is an absolutely beautiful example of what the breed is all about. She is healthy, intelligent and loving. She gets along very well with our 3 children - a girl, 16 and twin boys, 10. We picked her up at 10 weeks, and Rodney has stayed in touch with us to check on her progress and to make sure we are all happy. We are!
If we could have taken another puppy, we would have. The dogs are outstanding. I would feel confidant recommending Rodney and his top-quality Portuguese Pointers to anyone I know. We couldn't be happier with him, or our new family member.

We purchased a Portuguese Pointer from Rodney and are very happy. Our puppy is almost 14 weeks old now and is healthy, easy to train, has a strong prey drive, and of course is just adorable. She get's along extremely well with our friends and other (vaccinated) dogs who have come over to say hi.
We have not owned many dogs, but it's just amazing taking her to the vet for her vaccines. We go to the Cornell University Hospital for Animals (which is world class), and every time we go multiple vets come by just to swoon over the puppy. Took us 2 hours to get out with just a single shot. Sure everybody loves a puppy, but these Portuguese Pointers are something else! A stellar breed!
