I live in New Hampshire and have owned 3 bird dogs in my life. An English Setter and two other Shorthairs. I love Shorthairs. When I lost my 13 year old Shorthair on November 6, 2010 I was lost. I did some serious research, and asked around with other respectable GSP owners, and my search led me to Fieldmaster's Shorthairs in Maryland.
I ended up buying a young male pup from Fieldmaster's Shorthairs last November 22nd 2010. Dealing with breeder Robert Grove via email and by phone prior to my puppy selection was the first sign that I was interacting with both a professional breeder, and a compassionate individual who knows and loves Shorthairs.
The puppy selection was made easier by Robert's understanding of what I, as the potential owner, was looking for in a Shorthair. Suffice it to say, bringing my 9 week old "Patch" home to New Hampshire has been nothing short of wonderful.
Patch has an uncanny style while working the open fields. His natural quartering and instinctively using his nose is a pleasure to watch. His intelligent manner of slowing down when switching to the Grouse and woodcock coverts is another sign of good intelligent breeding.
When the young dog turned a year old, he was finding and pointing birds, and retrieving them to hand.
And every step of the way, I was in touch with Robert Grove and Fieldmaster's Shorthairs. Phone calls and emails, and hundreds of photos of watching the young pup learn and experience it all. Robert's expert advice and constant encouragement have helped me and my young dog become what we are today. A team.
We have a bond, this dog and I, that will be forever.
I can't thank Fieldmaster's Shorthairs enough and Robert Grove personally, for this great bird dog experience.
And finally, to anyone considering a German Shorthair as both a hunting companion, and a family member, you could do no better than Fieldmaster's Shorthairs.

After trialing in N.S.T.R.A. for the 2008 season I decided I needed a competive dog for this type of trial. A friend recommended I contact Fieldmaster's Shorthairs / Robert Grove.
Robert had a 2 year old finished bitch by the name of Fieldmaster's Woodland Cricket. I purchased this Shorthair and find her a very competive bird dog. She is easy to handle in the field, very honest and solid on her point and retrives to hand every time!! And backs too!! She is a very loving and good natured and I am completly satisfied in this quality bird dog. Looking foward to purchasing a puppy in the future. Thank you, Bo Thompson

My husband and I are the proud "parents" of Oscar (Fieldmaster's River Wrinkles, 11/2001). Oscar is an outstanding family companion. He has also proven himself in the cornfields and brush of central PA where we hunt pheasants and grouse. Oscar has a wonderful temperament and is extremely intelligent. He earned his Canine Good Citizen (CGC) from the AKC in 2005. We are extremely pleased with our experience with Bobby, Fieldmaster's Shorthairs, and with our dog.

Robert Grove and Fieldmaster's Shorthairs are truly representative of a first class breeding operation. I would go nowhere else if you are looking to purchase a GSP. Robert is passionate about his dogs and their bloodlines. He produces dogs with an unbelievable amount of natural instinct, drive and athleticism. My dog, Percy(Fieldmaster's Jersey Girl), has proven to be bold and excellent in the field and has surpassed any expectations I had. I also have two young boys at home and she blended in excellent with our family. She could not have a kinder or more gentle disposition. Robert is the type of individual that really cares for all his dogs and he was very instrumental in finding an excellent trainer for Percy. Robert epitomizes the phrase "Full Service Breeder/Kennel". Trust me when I tell you, you will not find a more honest, down to earth and caring breeder. There is no doubt in my mind where my next GSP will come from.

I purchased my first shorthair from Robert Grove/Fieldmaster Shorthairs and was not dissapointed. His breeding program is turning out quality, biddable dogs with loads of natural ability and a great temperment. Before my pup was born and after he was always responsive to my questions and always was helpful. My 7 month old pup Ava just ran in her first JH test and her average scores for the two days were 8.75 and 9.5, with 10,10,10, 8 on her second day. (the only thing she scored less than perfect on was trainability, the one thing I am responsible for) I attribute this almost entirely to her quality breeding as I am new to pointing dogs. I truly believe she could do anything I required, whether it be big running field trialing or NAVHDA testing. Without question, when it comes time for another shorthair I will be getting my pup from Robert Grove and Fieldmaster Shorthairs.

I purchased a German Shorthair male pup from Fieldmaster's who at 7 months took his first junior hunt test and scored a 8,8,9,8 with four finds he is just awesome. The natural ability of this dog is amazing and he looks great too. I would highly recommend Fieldmaster's German Shorthairs if you are looking for a dual quality GSP. Robert has always taken the time to answer any questions I have had on training Charlie. "Thanks Robert for producing such wonderful dog, he is everything you said he would be!"

I found Robert and his quality program after one year of researching pedigrees, breeders, and GSPs in general. What I found in Fieldmaster's could not be compared to anything else out there. Robert's program stands alone. He not only breeds pure success that is rivaled by others, he takes his program one step further by offering his support and knowledge to help us,first time GSP owners, get the most from our short hairs. I know that if I need help or just a silly question answered, Robert will be the first person to answer the phone or reply to my email within the day. Scout is beautiful dog with boldness, style, class and great natural ability. If you want only the best GSP that turns heads and makes people ask where that dog came from, Fieldmaster's is the only name you need to know. You can be sure that Robert will be the first person I call when I am ready for the second DC quality short hair. He has earned my praise and loyalty for life. Scout is the foundation of a life-long love, admiration and appreciation of the finest GSP breeding programs within the North Eastern US. "Thank you" does not begin to proclaim my gratitude for breeding one of the most naturally talented and true-to-breed GSPs I have come to know, appreciate, accept and love!
