A nationwide search for a kindly tempered Chesapeake Bay Retriever puppy bred for a healthy & long life caused us to seek out Nora Terrell of Wild Horse Kennels 10 years ago. Nora‘s reputation as a premier trainer and breeder of working dogs was underscored by her depth of knowledge and passion for the breed. We brought home a puppy (Wildhorse River Trace, 9yo) from an exceptional litter that included a service dog trained by Nora herself. Our puppy from that litter is now almost a 10 year veteran of outdoor adventures and backcountry life. She is also a revered household companion. We requested another puppy from the same lineage when we learned one was available. Our new puppy (Ruby Fire Wildhorse, 13 weeks) came with a benefit of Nora’s initial training and delights us daily. We have plans to get her onto birds this year. We highly recommend Chesapeake Bay Retriever puppies from Wild Horse Kennel.

We picked her up at a bit over 8 weeks old

Such a calm, smart, and healthy pup. Came to us mostly potty trained, retrieving, and started on leashes at 8 weeks.
Have had previous Chesapeakes and these are a “breed apart” in health, temperament, and capabilities.
At 12 weeks we already have consistent fetching, recall, and honoring of an array of over 15 commands on and off leash. Has the house dog basics down. Nora starts these pups with more knowledge than I knew I could hope for. We will be using our pup as a birding dog when she gets a little older, and she is a excellent companion dog as well. The most mellow and calm puppy I’ve ever met.
Nora does an incredible job of letting you know what the best pup’s temperaments are for your lifestyle and interests. Other members of my family got pups from her and they all are just as quick to learn and attentive to you when training.

I have purchased two males from Nora. The first one in 1998 and the second one in 2013. My 9-year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever has his CGC, CGCU, CGCA, & AKC Novice Trick Dog Certification, and is an uncle of this current litter. Nora has also helped me with training, ensuring that the dogs I purchased from her are a well-mannered part of my family. When I’m ready for another Chesapeake, it will be from Nora.
