About Red Oak Kennels
Fifty years ago, my grandfather (Houston Watts) lost his leg in a construction accident. Prior to that day he owned and hunted over two of the finest pointers ever to point a bird . This was when Bobwhite was still king. His gun of choice was a Remington Model 11. My father told me his dogs were second to none. Two rich men came down out of Gadsden, Alabama to hunt with him and their dogs one time. At lunch when the dog swap was to take place, they decided to take their dogs home. They had witnessed twice that day a dog retrieving and locking down on another bird yet to be flushed. Mind you these were wild birds. He told me before his passing, "if you want to do something, do not sit around till you are to old and crippled for it to happen". I love Bird hunting with a passion and with one goes the other. My shorthairs will compete with the best or if you want a pet they will love you to death. Les Watts Red Oak Kennels "A thicket without the potential roar of a quail covey is only a thorny place." -Aldo Leopold All our dogs are registered with the American Kennel Club, and all are trained on birds from a young age. The sound of a flushing covey of quail and shotgun blast are no big deal to a Red Oak Kennels dog!
