The Wyndham-Wyndhamian Flat Coated Retrievers are a private hobby kennel of hunting dogs established by Ed Atkins as a 10 year old boy in 1953. The goal from the beginning was to produce healthy, easy to train calm flatcoats with focus capable of hard work for 12 or more seasons. The kennel works its dogs in the very game rich Dakota prairie country. The dogs working from blinds for Canada and light geese, sandhill cranes, and many species of duck on the fields and prairie pothols and along the Missouri and James rivers. For upland hunting the dogs are worked on pheasants, sharptailed grouse and partridge. The seasons open with early Canada Goose and doves in late August or early September and continue into early January. Teams of this kennels dogs are out almost daily.

Breeding is taken very seriously with no effort spared to acquire the very best stock and all litters are born in Mr. Atkins home, where the pups are handled daily and nurtured to bond with humans. Early puppy training in the nest begins with the come command on a whistle associated with the delivery of food during the weaning process. Early retrieving is introduced at about 6 weeks of age. All puppies will retrieve to hand before being ready to leave for new homes at 8 weeks old. Those puppies kept in the home hennel are nurtured to work with humans. When they reach the fastest learning period in their developement theyb are very carefully taught to take a line, angle lines and respond to direction signals in house prior to three months of age without any force or correction. More important than the skills the pups learn to trust the human and be rewarded for following instructions.

The success of this program is clearly indicated by the facts. The first flatcoat female to place in an all age field trial in North America was imported by this program, the second female to place in an all age FT stake in NA was co-bred by Mr. Atkins. A Licensed FT Derby stake winner was bred here. The first two flatcoat Master Hunter animals were out of a Wyndham N. litter bitch and another from this N. litter was mother of the only flatcoat to attain Amateur FT Champion status in USA or qualify for the National Amateur stake. Two flatcoats exported to Europe won A Trial Open Stakes and a Wyndham bitch produced a Dual Ch (Field Trial and Show). While the field titles and many champions are nice, the emphasis is to produce quality working gundogs that are also delightful to live with.

The early summer litter will be sired by the Norwegian dog, Nor. Ch Agrebo's William Woodcraft Junior (born 1990- Died 2004) via frozen semen. The mother will be the 6 year old female, Wyndham's Izadorable Brown, a liver veteran of 5 shooting seasons, and the dam of excellent working progeny from her one previous litter.

The sire, called "Duke", has lovely progeny from two previous litters, also conceived from frozen semen. This dog was sired bu a well known stud dog imported into Norway from England. This dog was line bred to a litter born in England in 1971, bred by the Wyndham-Wyndhamian program. The mother of "Duke" was born in the USA and was the product of several Wyndham-Wyndhamian families bred by this kennel during the 1960's, 70's and 80's. Simply put "Duke" returns to the home kennel the "Blood" or genetics from our very best stock bred and owned over the past 50 years.

The mother to be, called "Nosey" represents 14 generations of careful selection within the kennel along with the constant introduction of other working strains of the highest caliber from England and Europe, without any of the purely show bred lines overbred in USA, Holland, Sweden and England. Nosey, is a tireless worker on both upland and waterfowl.

Even though the female is a liver or brown color, the male being used appears to carry only the dominant black color. Therefore all pups from this union are expected to be black. With the quality individuals and families behind these pups they should also be good looking individuals with well above average working talent. Some pups have already been reserved by long time flatcoat owners so if interested it is advised to contact Mr. Atkins as soon as possible.
