About Great Lakes Epagneul Bretons
I am a small kennel. I OFA/Penn hip check all our dogs.  Our dogs in our breeding program are all dogs from 100% French and have been imported from France and England.  I breed for the hunting desire first.  Puppies are raised in our home.  I travel to France to learn more about the breed to help our breeding program and to educate people. Our lines have been hand picked.  It is our desire to produce top quality Epagneul Bretons in the US and we feel that we have the right lines to do so.  When selecting our lines we look for hunting desire, temperment, bidability, conformation and health issues.  All puppies are temperment tested and have a two year guarantee.

My EB French Brittany was a gift from my husband. I was a German Shepherd and Samoyed owner previously. My husband's family only had small lap dogs that were not good with children. We were trying to compromise for years on a good breed. I wanted a slightly smaller breed than the shepherd but still have a good sized dog that could play with our 3 children. He wanted a small dog.

We came across a couple that had American Brittany's and loved them. My husband researched the breed and found the EB French Brittany. He contacted Sherry Hughes and had a ton of questions. She was very patient with him and helped him to understand this breed more to see if it was a good match for us.

Well it was worth the wait. We have an 8 month old male named Lewis. He is a wonderful addition to our family. He is definitely a people dog. He doesn't want to be far from us. Even when we take him to the family property up north for the weekend. He plays on 20 acres and never strays far. He will be back checking in with everyone in the family every 7 minutes or so. He loves the water. Jumping in both the pond and river to chase frogs and sticks.

We couldn't imagine our family without Lewis now. I am definitely a champion of this breed and breeder. They matched us up perfectly with the right puppy.

Great Lake EBS: Steve and Sherry Hughes really are doing things the right way. I contacted them 3 years ago, and finally stepped up and bought a pup in late 09. From day one, I felt they were an ambassador for the breed, willing to answer question after question(and I had a million of them), caring more about the fit than making a sale.
My pup turns 6 months old this week and I couldn't be happier. I was a died in the wool lab guy, but I wanted a smaller dog, that hunted hard and was a great family pet. Although we have not spent a ton of time in good bird areas yet, we are in the woods at least twice a week. My guy shows a ton of potential. He throws himself through cover (to the point where I am worried he will hurt himself), has a great nose, and really is a great member of the family. Great energy in the woods, yet he will curl up and sleep on your lap when the tv is on. His temperament is incredible. He has none of the high strung nervousness that I've seen with a lot of other field breeds.
If you have never heard of the EB (French Brittany) or Great Lakes EBS you should give them a serious look.
