About Town and Country Boykin Spaniels
Town & Country Kennel is dedicated to continuing the characteristics and improving the quality of the Boykin Spaniel breed. Town & Country Boykins is a branch of Town & Country Kennel and Cattery, which was founded in Cincinnati, OH in 1987. We are located in the Mt. Healthy area on a 10 acre country setting with 63 indoor/outdoor air conditioned/radiantly heated runs, and a cattery with 26 units. In addition to, and separate from this, are living quarters for our Boykin Spaniels and our family. Attached to the dwelling are 9 covered 6x20 concrete and chain link runs and 2 covered 8x16 puppy play pens. The large whelping room is part of our home. There are 2 acres of fenced turn out, divided into 3 separate yards. We also have a fenced-in pond that is suitable and used for introducing puppies to water, as well as other water-related training. We hope to compete at the National level, run hunt tests, and breed and raise Quality Pups for home and field.
Position on breeding and selling carriers of genetic diseases:
We strongly believe in and abide by the Code of Ethics of the Boykin Spaniel Society. We, like other owners and breeders, have some dogs that are carriers of genetic diseases. We comply with the code in obtaining the necessary tests required to obtain all health clearances on all of our dogs. Any offspring from a carrier at our kennel will be tested to determine which pups are carriers, and sold as such. In NO case will we breed a carrier to a carrier. Please refer to the Boykin Spaniel Society site on the internet for more info.
Barb's love affair with dogs started with a runt Golden Retriever named Penny. Training was a daily routine, getting ready for their 1st Retriever Trial at Cedarburg Quarry near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Barb and Penny's first ribbon was a CM (Certificate of Merit), so at 11 years old, Barb was hooked. While upgrading stock she was then rewarded with many champions in field, obedience, and conformation. This love and passion continues on. "Enjoying the Boykin breed means every day will have smiles and appreciation."
Charles has been a life-long hunter of waterfowl and upland birds. He bred, raised, and competed with English pointers in horseback field trials for over 35 years. He won the 1984 National Amateur Quail Championship with Nell K, and the 1986 National Open Prairie Chicken Championship with Colonels Calorie Counter. He judged several championship and other trials.
Barb and Charles competed in horseback shooting dog stakes as handler and scout for each other until 2011, when they fell in love with the Boykin Spaniel breed. After family, Barb and Charles' lives revolve around their beloved Boykin Spaniels.
