I live in North Texas and met Darrell at a hunt test in the spring of 2002 in central Texas. This was right after I had bought the first Labrador I had owned since 1968. We talked a great deal at each event we were both at and I watched him run Elly. What I saw even for a novice in today’s dog training impressed me a great deal. There was calmness but yet firmness to his handling of his dogs. As summer approached and he had gone back to Missouri I called to ask if it would be alright for me to come to his place to train and learn how to handle dogs in events. His answer was sure come ahead. For me that began what has become the best experience with dogs any one person can ever imagine. I have trained with him traveling from South Texas to Canada, Oregon to New York and a lot of places in between over the last eight years. I have watched him train pups to grown retrievers and pointers. He has an understanding of what needs to be done to make a retriever or pointer be the best that that one dog can be as not every dog can be a great field champion but every dog has a place in the field or in competitive events. It makes me proud to said that from Darrell’s tutelage and training techniques it has allowed me to train and handle three Hunting Retriever Champions/Master Hunters and allowed one of these three to become a Field Champion and Amateur Field Champion qualifying for 2 National Open Championships and 5 National Amateur Championships.

Thanks Darrell for all of your help through the years.

Whether you are looking for a new puppy, a started or finished dog, Darrell is the man to talk to. Darrell has an infinite amount of knowledge when it comes to any hunting or competition scenario. He can get your dog that MASTER or GRHRCH title because he has been there and done that many times.

If you give your dog to him to train, you can sleep well at night knowing that your dog is with someone that will respect, love, and give your dog the proper opportunity to become an awesome retriever. He will give you an honest assessment of the dog’s ability whether it is a started dog you buy from him or one he is training for you.

I cannot speak more highly of Darrell as a person and a trainer. He has helped me out with my dogs in more ways than he will ever know. He will sit down with any owner/handler to explain things in detail and would give you the shirt off his back to help you and your dog succeed. Thanks so much Darrell for your help!!

Give this man a call!! You won’t regret it!!

I have purchased two dogs from Darrell, both of whom he subsequently trained. I can not say enough good things about Darrell and what a great job he did with both of my dogs. More importantly, the time he spent with me working on my handling. Darrell takes pride in each dog he trains and is willing to modify his techniques to best fit a particular dog. I highly recommend Darrell.

I've known and worked with Darrell Layman for many years. We met through a mutual client.

There's not a better, or harder working trainer in the business nor a finer man in the dog business.

I'd recommend him to anyone, anytime.

Darrell is an excellent trainer.
He has a genuine love of dogs, and that in itself seperates him from allot of individuals in this profession.
He took our first Lab to finish his HRCH and his AKC Sr titles.
He has started several other dogs for us and taught us everything we know about handling our own gun dogs.
He pocesses skills for any and all levels of competetion and gun dog training. He is fair with the dogs and has the abilities to adjust the training program to meet the capibilities of each individual..
We highly recommend him as a person with the most consistant work ethics and talent in his field..
Consider Mr Layman for your needs of gun dog training, pointing dog training, or to work with you and your dog to hone your skills as a handler.
Nothing is as satisfying as a well trained dog as your partner on a good
dove hunt, or sitting beside you in duck blind.
CALL Darrell..... He can make that happen for you!

Happy Hunting!!!

Darrell trained my very first hunt test dog to her HR title. He also produced from his kennel my very first Hunting Retriever Champions. Darrell is a great guy to speak to, is an excellent trainer, and knows how to get the dogs trained.
A+ for Wolf Creek Champion Retrievers!
