Six years ago we got our griff from Phil. He was 5 months old and a "started" hunting dog. He had named his Winston and we kept the name. Winston is an awesome family pet as well as a great hunter. He continues to amaze us and anyone else that he hunts with. We get so many compliments on him! Phil is a top notch breeder. He answers any and all questions along the way. We are just thinking about getting a second griff. By the sounds of it, I should get on his list now, as the wait sounds like it can be long. Trust me, it is well worth your wait.

I researched my dog purchase for quite a long time, contacting breeders around the country. I wanted a good companion/family pet but also a good bird dog. I finally decided to purchase a dog from Phil at North Star Kennel. Unfortunately I had to wait for a pup, but it was well worth it. I did not get a GOOD dog, I got a GREAT dog. I just returned from only my third pheasant hunt with my dog, Winston, and he was GREAT! Being a very busy surgeon, I always feel guilty that I have not been able to spend more time training my dog. His breeding instincts and intelligence have been awesome...I can't wait for our next hunt!

North Star and Phil Wolthuis are the best. We wanted a puppy but I was concerned because my kids were so young (4 and 2)plus his waiting list is very long. Phil talked to me several times and we decided to take a 1.5 yr old started dog he bred whose owner had died. He has always been available for follow-up questions. Greta has been everything we wanted. She is a great hunter and very gentle and sensitive with the kids. She is a very loved member of our family and we will definitely get another Griff from Phil sometime in the future.

Phil was excellent in answering all my questions about the breed and the process of it all. We just picked up our puppy today, and was an excellent experience of picking him out. I was told if I had any questions to call him.

I purchased my first Griffon from Phil at North Star last June. Rye has been everything you could ask for. He is a hard hunter,great with our other dogs and loves playing with our 3 boys. Rye was hunting grouse and woodcock all day at 6 months old. He just passed his NAVDHA natural ability test on 5/29/09 with a PRISE 1. He is a hard worker in the feild and just as great in the house this dog loves to please. And Phil has been great with helping me train Rye, he has answered every question I have asked along with being available at the NAVDHA training days for questions.I would strongly recommend North Star Kennel to anyone looking for the perfect mixture of a hard hunting dog and family pet.
