About Wind Wagon Retrievers

"The true Labrador possesses elegance without over refinement and substance without lumber or cloddiness." Wind Wagon Retrievers is a gun dog kennel specializing in the breeding, training, testing, and hunting of Labrador Retrievers. Our breeding program is focused on pairing hunting retrievers that have proven abilities and pedigrees, are athletic and sound with good disposition and conformation. Our training program stresses high praise, the use of attrition, and the application of adequate and timely corrections when needed. This program is intended to maximize each dog's ability while boosting confidence and a positive attitude. Our puppy training program emphasizes the concept of conditioned learning.

We have handled our retrievers in AKC Junior and Senior hunt test events and HRC Started, Seasoned, Finished and Upland hunt test events, earning several JH, SH, HR, and UH titles. We will continue to handle dogs at these levels while broadening our experience at AKC Master hunt tests and Qualifying field trial stakes. We also plan to give back to both programs by judging at AKC and HRC events. Most of all, though, we enjoy hunting with our dogs and training for hunt tests simply makes them more pleasurable to be with in the field.

How did we come up with our kennel name? Local history says that Samuel Peppard, a blacksmith and wagon maker during the mid 1800's, provided the area with one of the most famous and interesting stories. While looking for adventure in the drought year of 1860, he decided to build a wagon with a sail and use the wind to take him across the prairie to the gold fields of Colorado. He and three other men set off with all their supplies. The wagon worked well and the small group travelled quickly through the plains. They were almost to Denver when the winds rose and the wind wagon was swept up by a "dust devil" and destroyed. We admire Sam Peppard for his perseverance and adventuresome spirit and hope that our retrievers reflect that same spirit in the field.

We received our 8 week old lab puppy from WWR one month ago. He seemed to know "Sit" and "Here" upon exiting the womb! In that short amount of time, Lucky has learned to fetch various objects to which he has learned the names, can hold a stay command (just several seconds so far), and seems to enjoy the water. He is a very active and vivacious little soul that is growing by leaps and bounds every week. My wife and I forsee good things for this dog and can't wait to see what he has in store for us! Jeff and Marion are pleasant people to work with and we would recommend their dogs to anyone.

I purchased a Hook & Teka pup from Wind Wagon Retrievers & I must say I've been more than satisfied w/ the little feller. At 13 weeks, Zero is showing a precocious side. He has proven to be a fast learner in obedience & marking. We've been able to begin simple doubles. He is willing without hesitation to jump over logs & other obstacles; he's also voluntarily jumped into water to swim for bumpers. Because Wind Wagon Retrievers made this breeding possible, I am able to have a pup that will grow into a competitive & accomplished dog. Thank you Wind River for making it possible for me to have & train a winner!
