Have owned and hunted with Chesapeakes for 66 seasons beginning in 1953. Current breedings represent over 15 generations of careful selection to breed HEALTH, SOUND, DURABLE, wIth EXCELLENT TEMPERAMENTS AND DOGS THAT HAVE LONGEVITY (on average our dogs work 12 or more years and live well into their teen years). All adult Wyndham Chesapeakes as well as all puppies born here are individually DNA tested to be FREE of PRA (retinal disease) and DM (lethal mid age neurological/muscular degeneration disease), have annual Board Certified Ophthalmological eye exams for any other eye diseases , and are subjected to a complete skeletal x ray exam at 2 years and again after 8 full years of work in the hunting field with the x ray plates read and later both sets compared by Board Certified Radiologists, who provide detailed written evaluations . Experience has demonstrated that the DNA tests, annual eye exams and complete skeletal x ray scans are the best tools available for an ethical breeder to focus on sound, durable and healthy animals for breeding. Coincidentally to our breeding for quality Wyndham Chesapeakes for work some of the same dogs have won the American Chesapeake Clubs National Specialty show and All Breed Best in Shows. Not bad for dogs bred and raised at home for working on wild waterfowl and upland birds from mid-August to January every year and also during the spring norther migration of snow geese. Puppies are from work proven parents with the many generations of animals that demonstrated they were Healthy, Sound, Durable, Trained easily, Were easy to live with and had real Longevity working and as a member of sporting families.
This litter represents more than 15 generations of animals owned and /or bred; rigidly tested in a program that far exceeds the breed club recommendations and tested in the hunting field at each generations. Located in rural North Dakota by choice the dogs are worked hard from mid-August thru early January on both waterfowl and upland birds. Only animals that prove themselves are bred from. For the past 65 years the Wyndhams have evolved as a distinct carefully managed strain within the breed. The strain built upon the use of many rarely found old working lines, while avoiding any known carriers of genetic disease. As part of the program ALL puppies are DNA tested at 5 weeks old. All puppies are regularly checked for worms and wormed on a schedule through the nursing and weaning period. They will be vaccinated at 7 weeks of age, and will not be available to be picked up until they have an interstate veterinary certificate of health.
The current litter brings together two distinct female families nurtured in this hunting kennel for generations. The mother is Wyndhams Helping Hand, a veteran of 7 shooting seasons, who represents a unique pedigree that brings together several purely working lines that can be traced back to the 1870's in Iowa, the Dakotas and Minnesota. The sire, Wyndhams Vini Vedi Vici. comes from our longest used female family with outcrosses to some older field trial lines but concentrated on the elite foundation stock of the Cocoa King kennel in Wisconsin from the 1940's and 50's. These tracing to outstanding workers brought in from western Canada and again very old stock documented to have been used in the mid-west since the 1800's.
