My first German Shorthair - German Shorthaired Pointer Hunting Dog Pictures Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer From: Jim Mariani Posted: Feb 22, 2008 As a first time trainer of pointing breed dogs, I chose the German Shorthair for its versatile hunting abilities. Gracie comes from Warriors Mark, a hunting preserve in central PA near my home in Greensburg, PA. Gracie's pedigree includes both show and hunting champions, though the real test is certainly in the fields we hunt. By 6 months, Gracie was pointing well, though breaking eventually. By 8 months I was bringing friends to shoot over her while I kept tabs on her actions. When this photo was taken at 9 months, Gracie would reliably hold a bird for over a minute. Now at 10 months, Gracie has "guided" several hunts to her credit, the most notable was last week when she took two groups of 6 total people on two hunts at 2.5 hours each, all in one day! Impressed does not begin to describe my relationship with this animal. I am hoping to assist Gracie with earning her NAVHDA Natural Ability and AKC hunt titles this coming year. If nothing else, it will be a fun learning experience for both dog and human! Happy Hunting! Jim Mariani |
