What a great experience! The Panaways (Dark Horse) treat their pups like family members and it shows. They immediately responded to my initial inquiry, allowed a meet and greet within two days, and gave us plenty of time to meet and select our new family member. They answered a million questions and provided lots of advice, as this is our first GSP. Our black roan boy is absolutely beautiful. He is REALLY smart and joined our family immediately with no issues at all. Our little girls love him and he loves them right back. He's already pointing and he's just two months old-great bloodline! We HIGHLY recommend Dark Horse, and passed on their information to several friends and family members.

My little sister Laura got her first dog a GSP named Karma from the Panaways, before meeting Karma I knew nothing about German Short Hairs.. I had never even heard of them. My little sister went on and on about the Panaways and how great they had been to her.. fast forward a couple of years and this past March my family as well as Karma are in the car on the way to pick up my first puppy, a GSP named Henry...from the Panaways. Before I picked up Henry, Dave and Vanessa would send me updates and photos of him.. they also were incredibly patient with answering every single question I had, and believe me I had some dumb ones. They were just as pleasant and helpful in person as they were over the phone and email. I really liked seeing how their children were right there playing with Henry and a few other dogs when we arrived, they took time to talk to my family and I and they took time to love on Karma as well. After getting Henry home they would check in and see how he was and continue to answer all of my questions. The Panaways are passionate and very knowledgeable about this breed, if you are looking for a GSP.. to hunt or just to be a companion, look no further!! Henry is very smart, handsome, very sweet and friendly, he's strong, fast, and after he finishes his training I am confident he will be a great hunter. Down the road I plan on adding another GSP to my family, and when I do Dark Horse Gun Dogs will be the first place I go. My experience with the Panaways has been nothing but exceptional..Again, if you are looking for the right breeder to get your GSP.. look no further!!!

After losing our GSP at almost 13 years old, my husband found Dark Horse and the Panaways on the Gundog Breeders site. We are so happy he found them. Ruger joined our family in Feb. 2017 and has been another wonderful GSP addition to our family. We will have him mainly as a companion but his personality shows he will be a great agility dog. He is a beautiful puppy that is sure to turn into a handsome guy. I can't say enough about the Panaways and their welcoming personalities. We have done a lot of research in finding breeders and the Panaways are the type you want to look for to have a healthy, well rounded GSP. My family and I welcomed the new member Shannon to our family on 04/17/2016. Shannon is a beautiful 10 month old GSP with the sweetest most outgoing personality you could ever ask for. I saw a posting on Gun Dog Breeders for Shannon and contacted David and Vanessa with absolutely what seemed like a hundred questions about her. (We currently have a 6 year old GSP that we rescued a year ago and was looking for an additional member since we fell in love with the breed.) Vanessa and David contacted me back and answered every question without reserve. They were great. I drove down and met Dark Horse Gundogs and was amazed at the time they took with me. Paperwork was up to date and every question was answered with them making sure I was satisfied before I left. Since we have texted pictures back and have been worry free. It has been a great experience buying a puppy from the Panaways. They sent us weekly updates and pictures about our puppy Indi. Seem to be very caring breeders. We are throughly enjoying our new puppy!

Saying that Dark Horse Gundogs are wonderful would be an understatement. The Panaways love for their dogs is obvious, as is their abundant knowledge about each individual animal and it's health, personality, tendencies, and potential. I've been blessed by the dog I got from them, Karma, and eagerly await all the times we will have together.
The Panaways went above and beyond in answering my questions, providing me with the tools and resources I needed to get started with Karma, and helping educate me on the best ways to keep her both happy and healthy. Their kennels are clean and well-kept, and the dogs are incredible. Karma is one of the smartest dogs I've ever seen, as well as one of the most loving. She starts pointing even on walks when I don't see any birds around, and sure enough, a bird will appear!She's also a great cuddler,and an amazing athlete.

Greetings from two who adore their German Short-Haired "puppies" (now one year old)! Our Scout and Radar are two of the most outstanding dogs we have ever owned, and we have owned dogs for at least forty years. They are gorgeous, super intelligent, and were actually pointing birds at eight-weeks-old! We couldn't believe our eyes, but there is nothing more adorable or fascinating than to watch their bird-hunting instincts kick in at such an early age. We are awed by their skill, agility, and patience. We have watched these two point birds with incredible composure, and I think they would stay on point for hours if we let them. My husband has worked with them in training and calls them "his bird dogs." I call them "my babies," and, yes, I love them so much that I have been guilty of rubbing them to sleep at night. Despite what some bird hunters may say, this does not impede the dogs' hunting skills.
We purchased Scout and Ray from Vanessa and David Panaway and were most impressed by them since our very first visit to see the puppies at two-weeks-old. The setting was extremely clean and professional, and we were thrilled to learn that David is a veterinary medic in the Army. Vanessa was extremely diligent and thoughtful of their care as well. The puppies could not have received a better start in life. We communicated about the puppies for weeks before they were even born and continue swapping our puppy stories now. You will not find any better or careful breeders in the United States! They come highly recommended, and I also knew the minute I met the puppies' mother, Sasha, that this would be the origin of our new bird dogs. I wish you the best with Dark Horse Gundogs. I purchased my German Shorthaired Pointer pup (Mia) from David and Vanessa of Dark Horse GunDog Kennels in September 2013. They both take pride in their breeding and have a very good working knowledge of the breed and bloodlines. I was very impressed with the level of professionalism that I dealt with when selecting and purchasing my pup. They focus on quality litters as they only breed every few years. You will be hard pressed to find a dog with the hunt drive and desire to please that these dogs have. Our female pup was very well socialized when we received her. Our pup is not only gorgeous, she is incredibly intelligent. She has a natural hunting instinct. I would definitely recommend Dark Horse GunDogs to anyone!

I got my GSP, Doc, from Dark Horse Gundogs in March, 2012, and have had a truly great experience, both with him and Dark Horse.

Doc is a treat to hunt with, though I need to work with him more. He's a great addition around the house, where he seems to do it all: sociable, trainable and effective as an early warning system. Unlike my neighbor's dogs, if he barks, I know that I need to pay attention! He is smart and trains quickly, so long as I'm patient and persistent with whatever task.

As a result of acquiring Doc from Dark Horse, who started him very well as a gundog, I have gotten to be friends with David and Vanessa, as well. I'm looking forward to some grouse hunting with David this fall, where I hope we'll both be taking a dog, and some birds!
