You will be able to find a huntable number of pheasants anywhere in South Dakota, but of course some areas are better than others. I run a hunting lodge in Northeastern SD near Aberdeen. I can speak with confidence about our neck of the woods. Our wild pheasant population is outstanding. We hunt 100% wild birds here. CRP acres across the state are decreasing but around us they are increasing the CRP acres because of the very wet conditions. Instead of trying to farm the wet ground, the farmers are putting it all into CRP acres. The wild pheasant population is thriving. We just put in another 170 acres of CRP last summer.
Breeding quality labradors is not only a job, but more importantly an awesome lifestyle!

I have been hunting out in South Dakota for the last 12 years. We go out for the second weekend, and hunt Friday through Tuesday. You can buy your liscense on-line and set it up for whatever days you want to hunt (you get 2 - 5 day periods) you can hunt 10 days if you want. The first 2 weekends are pretty crowded and it can be warm. After that the crowds thin out. South Dakota has a walk-in program which is private land available to hunt for free and you can find these plots in the SD Hunting Atlas. If you want to hunt private land, just surf the net and you can find places from one extreme to the other as far as cost, hunt scenario's, lodging, etc. You can pretty much find whatever you want. Do your research and you can't go wrong. Good luck!
