Does anyone have some good stories to tell about a trip to the Dakotas? I went there a few years back and had a blast I've never seen so many birds in all my life what a great experience.

No replies. I guess no one wants to share their secret spots.
How about suggestions by county? Anyone?

I spent 2 months this fall hunting pheasants, sharpies, and ducks around Eureka, SD.
Incredible numbers of birds. Lots of good public access.
I have a buddy who has a hunting operation on his family farm near Eureka. That always helps.
Lots of CRP will be coming out in the next few years. Take advantage of it while it's still good.
Once the CRP is gone I'm guessing the bird numbers and huntable ground will slowly decrease.

I have hunted for the last several years in the Kimball area and also the Murdo area west of the Missouri River. I hunted with a large group of 20 guys with anywhere from 8-12 dogs. I could be padimonium. I can tell you more than one story of shooting 60 birds in 45 minutes or taking all day in 40mph winds. When I get back from SD, I always start dreaming about the next trip. If you haven't been there you need to go. If you have been there, you should be planning to go back. Its the best.

Hi all. New to this forum.

Been hunting the south west corner/Mott area in North Dakota for the last 15 years. As you know the normal cold winter in 08 had a drastic crash in all birds populations in the state. We are more or less starting all over again prospecting for birds in South Dakota.

I am looking at the Atlas and the Gettysburg area but would like to go to the northwest corner of the state say, Herding or Perkins Counties. Tad closer for us coming from Oregon coast by way of Bowman ND and Rt. 12.

Does anyone have advise of the relative advantage to hunt the eastern half of the state? Should we go further east to say Aberdeen?

How far south did the bird die off go?

If we need to choose, is the low prairie better than the high prairie I presume is east of Aberdeen?
