What was your most memoriable hunt of the last year?

My friend Hank and I were hunting over his seasoned Drath Haar and my 3 month old English Setter. Hank's dog went on point and my puppy rushed in to investigate running over the grouse who flipped her on her back as it took to flight. We both were laughing so hard neither of us good get off a shot. A few minutes later another grouse flushed straight at me. By the time I zeroed in on a shot it was in obliteration range so I raised my shot gun and turned to acquire a parting shot the grouse flew into my barrel and knocked me off balance so I could not get off the shot. Again more laughter as this one clearly out foxed me!

My best of 2009, and I wasn't even able to be there. My female Brittany passed her first JH leg with flying colors in an AKC hunt test. We shoot a lot of pheasants over her working as guides at the local pheasant preserve. We are hoping to break her this year and work towards the Senior and Master hunter tests. Her first litter of pups was another highlight for our family. My daughter Alyssa pictured below cried when each of the pups went home.

I don't blame your daughter,,,,,, I would have cried too! I once drove from Michigan to Nebraska to get a puppy. When the ole grizzled owner hugged me good bye with the puppy in his arms he was in tears. Question about trials - especially with us grouse hunters who want their dogs to creep like a cat. Isn't the pace a little fast for what you want in the wild?

Yes but trial dogs have to show off when in the field, if you take them hunting, they will pace them selves. But to catch ones eye for a short time in a trial its all out.
