Field Bred vs Show Bred Golden Retiever

I expect that every description I have read in books and online about the Golden Retriever apply mostly to show bred Goldens. Therefore, other than working ability in the field, I am wondering what normally are the main differences between the two lines. For example, I read on another post that the field bred ones tend to have shorter coats. Therefore, I'm wondering if the field bred Goldens are also heavy shedders. Also, is there normally much difference in the temperament or personality. Do field breds tend to be as good a house dog with a family and as easy to train as the show breds? Any observations or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
