Silver Dollar Kennels

I feel it is necessary to post about my experience with the subject kennel. One of my best friends, whom I trust, put a deposit down on a down on a pup from a recent litter from Silver Dollar Kennels. After seeing the dogs online, and persuading my wife, we decided to call and inquire about purchasing a male from the same litter. I called and reached a verbal agreement with Tom, no deposit necessary (I even pushed this and he insisted it was not necessary) & my friend would pick up the dog when he got his. We told our two boys (ages 8 & 6) about getting the dog (our first dog) and they were very excited - drawing pictures, named the dog ect... Three days before my friend was to pick up our dog I rec'd a call from Tom.....he wanted to limit the registration for the dog so any offspring could not be registered. This was never mentioned in our previous agreement, I told him my intentions with the dog...house dog that would hunt for me and my boys ect... Apparently, this was not a good enough for Tom, he was concerned with me studding the dog out and tainting his blood lines. He ended up backing out of our verbal agreement and refused to sell me a pup which resulted a very disappointed family. He even wanted me to pay an additional $500 for full registration of the pup. I found Tom to be very unstable during this process and if I would not have told my boys already, I would have given him a few choice words and looked for pups elsewhere, but I did my best to buy a pup from him to not disappointed my boys. He told me he was not planning to sell any of the pups, however, on his website the price was raised and there still are some for sale. Luckily we were able to find a pup out of Bona's Kennel and had a great experience and are very happy with our pup. I feel it is necessary to pass this along to others who may deal with this kennel.

Sorry to hear about that, Ryan. Unfortunately, the 'purist' attitude is not restricted to bench dogs. It is present wherever you involve human ego.

Ryan,

I'm curious as to which litter youy purchased your Pup from and it may help me to explain his behavior. not excuse it but help understand it. if the pup was from his ONE dog that has ties back to Hillhaven Hustler and Hege Haus ect. he probably figures that he need to be as picky as the orginal breeders of those lines. the Kennels that actually maitain those lines are all very particular who gets a pup and how it is managed. But this does not explain his radical actions and why he was difficult to deal with. the true manangers of these lines very often do require a limited registration especially if its a female. The Females carry much of the genetics that make a hunter a hunter and when you look at a pedigree the Bitch line is often much more important than the Sires. I would recommend you visit Gary Hutchisons website and look at some of his info on breeding and line breeding. http://www.westwindgsps.com/
other than that I will agree, how he handled the situation was not warranted and could have been more proffessional
