Gorden setter need help with training

Postby Kooz » Sun Mar 21, 2010 6:02 pm

I have recently purchesed a gorden setter, I have never had a pointing dog before, I alwas had Labs. The problem that I,m having with my new dog is that he is very skidish around all kinds of sounds. I had him out the other day doing a little retrieving with a dumby and a grouse wing attached I thru the the first and he retieved great, the next time I thru the dumby I shoot a 22 behind me and he paid no attention the gun shoot, I did this once more with the same results. I thought every thing was great. Two days later I did the same thing with the same results except for the last time I trhu the dumby, When I thru the dumby the last time and shoot the 22 behind me he took off like a rocket like he had never herd the sound before, since then I,m not quit sure where to go fron here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

When I intro a dog to the sound of the gun..it is off in a distance and the dog is focused on the chase of a bird I do one shot

What I would suggest now is to hook up with someone that has knowledge and can help undo the fear factor

Where are you located maybe someone can direct you to someone that can help close to you
