Johnny houses-

Postby SalmonRiverGSPs » Wed Mar 16, 2011 10:09 am

Johnny houses seem to be something that lots of trainers use...I think I've read every article and seen every video clip and picture available online. I've also talked to lots of trainers and game bird farmers trying to get all the info that I could on using Johnny houses. What do you all think? Any failure or success stories? What made them work or not work for you? And the birds...quail? chukar? huns? pheasants? What about procedure for getting the birds trained on getting back in? Or procedure for using them when you're ready to take the dog out?

Check out the article on gundog breeders. Right on the front page. “How Your Johnny House Should Work. “

This is pretty much how mine works. I don’t think you need all the fancy stuff they have in some of the houses they sell. I’m sure they are nice, but I had an old tuff shed I use. I just put a recall door in and they come back.

I use quail.
Whoever said you can’t buy happiness never had a new puppy!

Have some of you had better luck with birds from a specific breeder? Some that recall better. Fly better?

I have used some that recall good, but not fly as good.

Then I have used some that fly better, but don't recall at all.

Any info on where to get better bird eggs that we can raise?

Thanks
Scott
