Which dog food and how much $

Postby AnnabellaKennels » Sun Jan 24, 2010 8:11 pm

Wondering what brand of dog food others are feeding and how much they are paying per 40-50lb. bag. I feed a brand called Hi-standard that I am paying $23 for a 50lb. bag (26/18 Purple Bag).

What's in your dog dish?

i am looking into the loyall dog food ..meeting with the rep next week
50 pound bag of the 24 protein which my friend who are feeding say their dogs are doing way better then when they were getting fed the exceed 30/20 or even pro plan performance something about the way it is processed the dogs are getting a lot more out of the food

and I really liked the condition of the dogs coats and weight they were able to maintain with running trialing and road stress over all

we shall see what they come up with
other then that we are feeding exceed and some of the kennel dogs are getting a blend of exceed with dog chow

Through this winter I have been feeding Hi-STANDARD Performance 30/20 Dog Food . Prior to when it got cold, I was feeding the same as Jon. I'll switch back in the spring. Good stuff.

I have never seen nor heard of Hi Standard..sounds like a local company feed...That is something I have to watch for is the access to the feed specially when we hit the road...I am no longer going to haul 20 plus bags of dog food we did that when we fed that arkat feed which when they changed their formula cause me a bunch of grief

High Standard was recently brought out west and reformulated by John Evans who is a Utah Field trial guy. He was responsible for bringing Black Gold to the bird dog world in the West. This is good stuff. I can get you his contact info if you like.

we feed about a bag plus dog food a day...So unfortunately until it is more readily available I will sit back and will see how they do hope the maintain bag size price and formula

Honestly this is nothing against them BUT I just am not going down that road again like I did with Arkat  . One reason we never did try Black gold either the lack of being accessible.

I used to feed a local company food when I was in california was called Topline when I was running cattle dogs for ranching that stuff was great but it never did get to be a widely spread food  as it would have been a super food for bird dogs /hunting dogs

We currently feed Diamond to all our dogs. It is readily available, cost effective, comes in numerous formulas to meet the needs of each one of our dogs, and our dogs do WONDERFUL on it.

Our beyond active Harder to keep Male GSP (66lbs of pure muscle). He is fed Diamond Extreme Athlete (32% Protein 25% Fat) in the winter and during hunting season. On the "off-season" he is on Diamond Hi-Energy (24% Protein 20% Fat).

Our pups our started on Diamond Puppy (31% Protein 20% Fat) and continued on that for at least 1 to 1.5 years of age.

We also have a rather obese Black Lab that is now on a strict scheduled diet of Diamond Maintenance (22% Protein 12% Fat). And it is working well to bring her weight back under control.

Our other dogs are on Diamond Hi-Energy all year long.

We can purchase Diamond at any Tractor Supply or Orchlens.
Diamond Hi-Energy 50lbs $19.99
Diamond Maintenance 40lbs $15.99
Diamond Extreme Athlete 40lbs $34.00
Diamond Puppy 40lbs $22.00

I have tried so many, was feeding Pro Plan performance, but not all the dogs did 100% on it. One had coat trouble. Ear infections and so on.I went to Native now and all the dogs have blossemed on it. Stools are great, small portions for great form, and the coats have all softened and shined up unbelievable. No more ear infections. And I get to feed it to all of them instead of three different foods. I feed level 3 which is 30-20, they have a level 4. It' all the same price. We get it 10 bags at a time deliveded as a breeder program for about 35 dollars a bag ,I think there 44lbs. The endourance is great.
