Rate Your Dog Food

One of our customers “Pam” shared this site with us. I thought it was pretty interesting. They rate dog food by ingredients from an unbiased perspective.

http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/

I was surprised to see some of what I thought was good foods rated pretty low and some food I passed over rated really well.
After spending a considerable amount of time researching, we changed the food we feed. Price was a consideration as we buy over 500 lbs a month but we were able to upgrade our food and still save a couple of bucks!

Thought I would share. Check it out and post what you think.

I have been feeding Red Flannel Prime formula for a 6 months or so. Very happy with the results and cost. Every 6th bag is free where I buy it. Only gets two stars on that website though.

I think the most widely available and highly rated feed on that list is the Kirkland from Costco. I have fed it in the past, just something about 40 pound bags. Somehow I feel slightly ripped off :P

Surprised to see that Pro Plan comes in at two stars.

All I can say is the Loyall High Performance Dog food we are feeding My dogs are doing great on it
and Most important my females do great and my puppy whelp weight has gone up by at least an ounce average The last litter 9 puppies and the smallest one was 9.1 Oz most were in the 12 oz range and one pup at 13.9 oz Average whelp weight is upper 8-10 oz range My last 4 litters since being with Loyall have all been this way

This tells me that not only is momma getting the Nutrition she needs but has plenty to all the pup to get the nutrition they need to whelp out at healthy weights.

Also the dog have more sustainable energy. which many of those fancy feeds fail for even just the average weekend warrior hunting dog.. I see this quite a bit on the pheasant preserve with some of the spoiled dogs who get the high dollar feed and the dogs are toast after a 3 bird hunt.

I’ve found that not every 5 star food is 5 stars for every dog. Over the years we have tried many foods and always seem to come back to Purina One. All our dogs seem to do very well on Purina one Lamb & Rice and have a low poop output. I was surprised to see that it only had a 1 star rating.

I am currently trying the Kirkland food. (A 4 star rating) I started with their Lamb & rice but didn’t like how the dogs were doing. I have since switched to the Chicken (Higher Protein & fat) and I like how that is going. Time will tell. It’s been 3 months so far.

I have tried the Red Flannel Prime also (2 star) in the past, but our dogs didn’t do well on it.

I wonder how much geographical location plays a part in how a food works with a dog?
