Missed Tick :(

Postby swbell » Sun Apr 03, 2011 9:44 am

I knew it was this time of year. Today when giving a bath I noticed a tick on our 5year old Brittnay. Must of been right under the collar and I had missed it. We play with her, walk her, sit on the floor in the living room w/ her, rub her tummy, scratch her ears, and love on her all the time. I'm not sure I missed this and I feel horrible. On May 21 I had the first of 2 Lyme Vaccinations given to her. Tomorrow,Mon 4/4, I've got another appointment for the 2nd shot.

Is there anything else I can do? Is there anything I need to ask the vet?

thanks,
-steve

Not every tick is a carrier of Lymes. If you had her on a good topical tick and flea liquid like frontline or advantik k-9 chances are the tick died and did not transmit into your dog.

Not to worry...yet !

I hadn't begun the topical yet. This tick was fully attached and had blood in it. I just got back from the vet w/ the 2nd shot. Vet suggested that we do some blood work a few months from now just for a peace of mind. She does have the topical on now and will continue to do this each month until nov, dec.

thanks for the input.
