Micro chips

Postby BlueRiverKennel » Sat Jan 23, 2010 9:22 pm

What do you do for ID, chips or tatoo, I did the tatt all the time, but switched to the chip, because most of the time our dogs did not get sedated, they lay nice. Pluss its cheaper. But I noticed on Odie, his chip is moving. It has moved at least 6" and is now right on the top edge of his shoulderblade. I was considering getting it removed. What do you think?
Any experiance?

the older chips really moved and will move a little depending where it was "set" as a pup grows it moves a little. idea is to move down the back very little but I have found them in armpits. Well worth the chip being there to make sure pup if lost or stolen gets home safe.

All of my dogs are Microchipped, and every puppy whelped her gets Microchipped @ 7 weeks old. I have found that some have moved around. It is supposed to be common pratice for most Vets &/or Animal Controll Oficers to scan the whold body to find them. Last year I had 3 different dogs returned to thier owners because of their Microchips. I highly recommend them.

Hi,
I had the same problem, the chip moved pretty early on and has "landed" on his right side now. It is a visible little bump, but doesn't bother him at all. The vets in the office we use all agree that it does not need to be removed, but we were going to have it removed/replaced when he needed to have another surgery. The more we thought about it, the more we decided why bother cutting him if it is not necessary, and I kind of like the idea of being able to see it and monitor it! The guy who handles him at dog shows says he has seen so many cases of the chip's migrating, it is amazing. It really doesn't harm the dog at all. And, like others have said, vet offices and shelters are suppose to scan the entire body for the chip now.
