Excessive shedding – fish oil solution?

My lab is an inside dog. She sheds more than any lab I’ve ever been around. My vet said to try giving her fish oil pills with her food. Anyone heard anything about that or know anything else that might help.

Also, how does everyone feel about using a “Furminator” coat rake on a lab?

I have shorthairs, but I know someone with a lab that swears by the furminator. He says once a week.

I don't know about the firmanator or whatever, But I had the same issue. The doc did in fact give the go ahead for fish oil pills and it helped. But it did end up being the food I suspect. I had ear infection I fought at the same time. I switched food and the coats shine, got softer,less or normal shedding. The ear infection has not returned, and the dogs packed on more muscle in a few months then they did in 2 years. Hard to believe, but true.

BlueRiver Kennel, do you mind me asking what you are feeding now? I have been feeding that Eukanuba Labrador Retriever Blend. That should be a high enough quality dog food I shouldn't be having those problems wouldn't you think?

Each dog can react different to certain foods or corn based products. I went to Native. The dogs were just sensitive to the corn in the food we had I think. I have also had trouble with certain shampoo. You want to use an aloe based product and not that Bio toxic stuff.
