EIC ???

Postby LabLake » Sun Feb 28, 2010 3:02 pm

We were just informed that the female having the litter we just put a deposit on, has tested positive for EIC. The male sire is negative. It is early in the process and not too late to withdraw our deposit. We need information on what the consequences are if the mother dog is EIC-positive. Our immediate questions are:
1) What are the chances of our new female pup having EIC?
2) Would we be able to breed our dog later on if she has EIC?
3) Are there any consequences for buying a pup with an EIC-positive mother?
Any information would be helpful. You can tell we are new at this.
Thank you!

What do you mean by EIC positive? Is she a carrier or affected? That is what you need to know. If she is a carrier, your pup will have a chance of being a carrier. If she is affected then your pup will be a carrier. Nothing wrong with being a carrier. If your pup is a carrier then you should only breed to a clear stud.
