My dog training truck...

Postby AnnabellaKennels » Wed Jan 20, 2010 1:33 pm

I have been dreaming up this truck for over a year now and finally got it together. First, found a ford ranger 4x4 with rear-end damage, popped the bed off, frame was fine, no damage. Next, order an aluminum flatbed from Aluma that fits the smaller pickups just right. Then I ordered the custom dog box from Diamon Deluxe dog boxes. Here is a picture of it all together. Still adding the tie-out under the rear bumber. Had to add my own mud flaps and receiver hitch for towing. I tried to leave room on the back for a Honda ATV. Measurements are just right.

Nice looking truck!

What is that white stuff on the ground and the mounds in the background? We don't have anything like that in south Texas!

Yea, the brittany dogs actually have to use their fur to keep warm up here in Utah. The snow can be challenging for dog training but I love having all four seasons.

Awesome truck. It looks like if you really went crazy you could have put another level of 4 kennels up higher. Of course you would need some super jumping brittanys. How is it for air ventilation in the summer when the truck is stationary?

The ventilation is provided on the front and back. You can't see very good in the pic but behind the dogs are sliding panels to open/close the vents. There are also the same on the front side against the cab and the louvers of the headache rack naturallly feed the air down into the dog box. I am thinking it will be good air flow in the hot summers. We shall see.

Nice set up. I would like to do something like that with my truck.
I am almost finished with the trailer I am building. Bought an enclosed trailer and then had some doors made. Its two levels with 8 compartments. Each compartment is large enough to hold two dogs.

Nice, I just use a station wagon for training, trialing and hunting. here in MN it gets so cold, then so darn hot and humid. So I have the back seat down flat and have the dogs in there,In kennels. Too hot, I let it run with AC, too cold there in the heat. Pluss I get 30+ miles to the gallon and can fit all my gear in there. Been all over the US with it. I will have to go your guy's route if I start running more dogs in events. But that gets spendy.

That is a nice trailer Range View. What a great idea and I bet it was much cheaper than buying a dog trailer. Economy is the way to go and I like the station wagon idea. I just have bad memories of the station wagon from my childhood.

I looked at buying a dog trailer but I just couldn’t stomach the price and couldn’t find anything that was laid out like I wanted.
Bought an inexpensive enclosed trailer and did it up the way I wanted. It can hold up to 16 dogs, water, food and gear and I spent half the money than anything close. I do have a lot of time into it, but anyone that is in the dog business knows you never get paid for all of that. :D
