Family Dogs

I saw this topic in the Pointer crowd but did not want to barge in on their fun. So I thought I would give my 2 cents here. I honestly can't think of a single spaniel breed that does not make a fantastic house dog. What do the rest of you spaniel folks think. To me that is one more aspect of the versatility that comes with a spaniel, along with being able to hunt most any bird on the planet without skipping a beat.

I think the majority of the gundog breeds make nice family dogs if raised in the home, etc. Most people don't consider Pointers to be great family dogs, but I've seen some that were just wonderful....very calm and laid back when in the house. I've seen the same with some German Shorthairs, but I've also seen a few that were off the wall. A nice family dog is as much the result of proper training as it is genetics.

I have owned Brittanys for longer than I care to try to remember and with the exception of one, were great family dogs. Looking back at the one exception, I can't put the blame on any one thing except myself.

My 2 cents worth I have had springer spaniels for some time the best one was free and never had to train him for hunting he came to it naturally. His only problem came when I had to start leaving him home when I started driving for a company that didn't allow dogs in the truck. Forgot to to tell my wife he was window trained not door trained. After that he was the perfect dog with my kids etc. The next two were good except when it came to cold water one would work in it the other no way. Then had to give dogs up for some time but Have had my male for 5 yrs now and just got 2 little girls from same litter double trouble but more fun than would believe.

These 2 pups will make great companions as well as fine hunting dogs. Priced to sell quick at $350.
Field bred litter born 7/11/2010. Ready now. Both parents come from very well bred champion bloodlines. Pedigrees can be seen on saltcreekshorthairs.com under the English Cocker tab. The sire is Fallen Wings Spartan (solid black) whose parents are FC Crayford Kennie of Kingcott MH and FC Deanbank Maggie Kate MH. The dam is Skyes' the Limit (white and black) who has 9 out of 12 grand parents and great grand parents that are FC. Notables in her pedigree are FC Oak Alley Peregrine, FC Columbias Magnum Lad, FC Parkbreck Jet MH, NFC FC Darag Caol Shraid Marshen, FC Parkbreck Warlord, and FC Locke Ridge Llywn Niwl.
