Need a Vizsla Stud

Postby gtinker63 » Wed Jul 14, 2010 6:20 pm

Hey,
Does anyone know of a Stud Vizsla in the Rochester Minnesota, or La Crosse, Wisconsin area? I have a great female that is almost 2 and would like to Breed her. She is certified and prime for having offspring. If you or someone you know has a stud please let me know. Post here and I will get you my phone number and/or email address.
Thanks if advance

Why do you want to breed her? What makes her "breedable"? Is she titled? What's her pedigree? So far we have "She's Two, certified" and "Prime for breeding". Those don't sound like good reasons to me. Certified in what?
You got plans for all the pups?

Sorry for the lack of reasons. I didn't know what information people were looking for and didn't think I had to offer all the information to the general public.
She is AKC certified as a purebread Vizsla.
She is a very good hunting dog that can hold point as well as any dog I have hunted with.
She is great with my family and 7 month old baby.
She comes from a field champion father and a mother who was also a hunter in Nebraska.
I am not looking to become a breeder and steal anyones clients.
In this area I know of a few people who are very interested in this breed. I know I can easily get the pups to good families and responsible people. I was thinking of breeding her once or twice and that is going to be it. I also may keep a pup or two as well.
Thanks again

Have the hips been OFA'd?

You REALLY need to have that done, before breeding, as this is a problem in the breed.
Don't get me wrong, I don't breed, and never have.
Who is the sire of your girl? Just curious, whether or not I know him.

The guy who has replied is in to Vizsla Rescue....

I understand his concerns is for the breed has nothing to do with clients

Sounds like you have a nice female..Do your self a favor learn her pedigree and speak to some breeders and find a suitable male that will compliment your dog...and yes even have her OFA'd when she is 24 months so you know her hips are passing...Just because a dog can jump and play doesn't mean they have passing hips a dog with mild hips may never show signs. A dog that has moderate hips may not show signs till about 5 or 7 years old.

even though you are only considering a litter or two .. what V'John is concerned about is the breed as a whole and breed with the right goals in mind...

Also though you might be able to home all the pups what if those people when the pups are ready to go home back out faster then a straight guy walking into a gay bar.. Do have a plan for pups that do not sell..I all to often see people panic because they have 4 or 5 pups and they are 12- 16 weeks old and they have posted ad after ad and then they start giving them away to anyone that will get them off their hands. I work on a preserve and I get a calls every year asking if i know anyone wanting a pup I have even had a couple people just want to unload their unsold pups on me.

Hope you take the posts the right way...

If you do these extra steps your chances of finding better homes improve greatly...Specially if you work with a breeder that is willing to help you out on producing some pups to be proud of..I know I learned boat loads from open breeders that were willing to answer my many questions

Good Luck

Thank you for all the feedback. I in no way want to put bad genes into the Vizsla gene pool. If you would meet my girl you would be very impressed I believe. My vet has 2 Vizsla's as well and always says how good my dog is.

I will get her hips OFA'd. Again, thanks for all the help.

PS my dogs sire was Sundown's Mighty Max
