Quality Flat Coated Retriever Litters  -  Fall - Winter, 20010 - 2011

The Wyndham-Wyndhamian Flat Coated Retrievers are a private hobby kennel of hunting dogs established by Ed Atkins as a 10 year old boy in 1953. The goal from the beginning was to produce healthy, easy to train calm flatcoats with focus capable of hard work for 12 or more seasons. The kennel works its dogs in the very game rich Dakota prairie country. The dogs working from blinds for Canada and light geese, sandhill cranes, and many species of duck on the fields and prairie potholes and along the Missouri and James rivers. For upland hunting the dogs are worked on pheasants, sharptailed grouse and partridge. The seasons open with early Canada Goose and doves in late August or early September and continue into early January. Teams of this kennels dogs are out almost daily.

Breeding is taken very seriously with no effort spared to acquire the very best stock and all litters are born in Mr. Atkins home, where the pups are handled daily and nurtured to bond with humans. Early puppy training in the nest begins with the come command on a whistle associated with the delivery of food during the weaning process. Early retrieving is introduced at about 6 weeks of age. All puppies will retrieve to hand before being ready to leave for new homes at 8 weeks old. Those puppies kept in the home kennel are nurtured to work with humans. When they reach the fastest learning period in their development they are very carefully taught to take a line, angle lines and respond to direction signals in house prior to three months of age without any force or correction. More important than the skills the pups learn to trust the human and be rewarded for following instructions.

The success of this program is clearly indicated by the facts. The first flatcoat female to place in an all age field trial in North America was imported by this program, the second female to place in an all age FT stake in NA was co-bred by Mr. Atkins. A Licensed FT Derby stake winner was bred here. The first two flatcoat Master Hunter animals were out of a Wyndham N. litter bitch and another from this N. litter was mother of the only flatcoat to attain Amateur FT Champion status in USA or qualify for the National Amateur stake. Two flatcoats exported to Europe won A Trial Open Stakes and a Wyndham bitch produced a Dual Ch (Field Trial and Show). While the field titles and many champions are nice, the emphasis is to produce quality working gundogs that are also delightful to live with.

The 2010 breeding plans call for two litters from the Wyndham-Wyndhamian  best proven stock.

The first union will be between the work and breeding proven imported female, Faradorn Midnight Millie, a proper size hard worker from a purely working pedigree. Millie is a good looker and the dam of excellent workers and good looking progeny. She comes from a female line with proven productivity and exceptional longevity and durability. These are flatcoats that train well and take to hard work with enthusiasm.

Millie will be bred to one of the breeds finest dogs and like her a proven producer of top class individuals and from a pedigree with exceptional longevity and durability. Tarpilens Bogart represents the crossing of two very high quality working strains and the very focused and steady personality reflect the quality of this breeding.

Millie is a black female but sired by a liver (brown) dog, so she carries the recessive color gene for brown. Bogart carries only the genes for the black color, therefore all pups from this union will be black. Because of the  quality individuals and strong families behind these pups they should also be good looking individuals with well above average working talent. Some pups have already been reserved by long time flatcoat owners so if interested it is advised to contact Mr. Atkins as soon as possible.

The second litter will be from Wyndham's Izadorable Brown. Nosey is a coming seven year old with six years of work in the field. She missed this spring to an AI breeding due to questionable veterinary technique. Therefore as we really want one or two daughter to carry on Nosey's 14 generations of Wyndham-Wyndhamian selection, a natural mating will be utilized with a very high quality home-bred dog, Wyndham's Lordly Lion, called Hercules. This dog compliments the bitch both physically and in temperament and working style. It will be a line breeding to the programs generations of work proven stock and will incorporate several imported animals in each of the past several generations.

Nosey is a liver (brown) female and Hercules is black but both his sire and dam carried the brown gene. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that there likely will be puppies produced that will be either black or liver.

Several long time flatcoat enthusiasts have already placed deposits for puppies from this litter. If one is seriously interested inquiries are invited to the chance to reserve a pup from this very promising union.

All Wyndham-Wyndhamian puppies are sold directly to approved homes by prior reservation only. To reserve a pup a non-refundable, 50% deposit is required. The breeding program is a very serious hobby and placement of each puppy in appropriate homes is a top concern.  Those inquiring are asked to provide full information about their interest and experience with the breed, how the pup will be housed, trained and used and provide a home phone number
