Whittlesey Valley Retrievers is located among the forests and fields of far northern Wisconsin, just outside of the City of Ashland, and near the shores of beautiful Lake Superior. Our name comes from the creek valley where we reside. Though it is not a major watercourse, Whittlesey Creek is well known locally for its significance as one of Lake Superiors most productive cold water salmon nurseries. But, we dont raise fish; we raise labs - Superior Labs from Superior country. Our family is passionate; in fact, some might say a little crazy about hunting and hunting retrievers. We have owned and amateur trained hunting retrievers for 20 years. Our dogs are annually hunted over literally hundreds of pheasants, sharp-tailed grouse, Hungarian partridge, ruffed grouse and waterfowl in four states. We have wonderful friends with excellent hunting opportunities in Wisconsin, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, and we (and our dogs) have benefited greatly from those relationships. In 2001, after many years of enjoyment and a lot of heartache (see our story) we decided to enter the breeding arena. We created Whittlesey Valley Retrievers to share our passion for the Labrador breed and to provide puppies of superior health, superior drive and superior temperament. Our dogs are from long lines of well known field trial champs or show champs with excellent health records. They are run in AKC hunt tests to prove their abilities, and they have been extensively tested to ensure their puppies will be in excellent health. We only breed to sires with champion field trial, show or master hunter titles that also meet the strict health standards we require. When you purchase a puppy from Whittlesey Valley Retrievers, you can be confident that the research we have put into our breedings will result in an extraordinary companion, with an excellent temperament, tremendous drive, remarkable trainability and extreme devotion. You too will own a Superior Lab!
