About Laurel Oak Irish Red and White Setters

My goal is to breed selectively and positively for dogs of Irish type that can still carry out their working function. That means using dogs in my breeding program with known and proven working ability. Cailin (pictured) was the first AKC show champion, but also is the first AKC Senior Hunter.  Sean our male,  is a great bird dog who we imported from Ireland out of true Irish gun dogs. These two have produced puppies that excell in the field as well as the show ring.  Our dogs are always Owner/Handled/Trained. Judy and Laurel Oak are the BEST. I had been in contact with her for a few years prior to adopting Larkin. By then, Judy knew me better then I did. I almost adopted a FooFoo dog. When I changed my mind, Judy said she knew I would. While we had visited the pups when they were a few weeks old, she ultimately recommended Larkin for us (named after Linda's grandmother who came over from the Motherland through Ellis Island!)
We love her. She "IS" an Irish Setter, but so loveable and wants to do nothing but please us most of the time! (We didn't want that table anyway!)
I did my homework before we decided on Laurel Oak Setters. Judy didn't disappoint us and she won't, YOU.

Laurel Oak is the way to go! I contacted Judy after one of my Red and White's passed from lymphoma. Not really knowing her that well, I quickly found out from numerous discussions how passionate of a breeder she was, not only about the breed, but finding the RIGHT home for her pups. I bought Clancy, a 1 and 1/2 year old male pup who has quite the nose, but can also be brought in to play with the kids, sweet as homemade ice cream on the 4th of July! He is sound, athletic and stands correct. This boy will out hunt the best of them! Judy cares so much, she would rather find the right fit for her pups and will work with you to help in delivery as well if you do not live close. We have continuing contact and she loves to know how her babies are doing! After receiving Clancy, I could tell how much effort she put into early training. I have never had a better experience in buying a dog from someone. She really knows the Irish red and White Setters! I could not believe how dead on she was when describing my pups behavior/personality to me while I was waiting for him to be old enough to come to our home. Her dogs are bred with the utmost integrity! I also feel I have met a new life friend.

Wow! what a great dog! Our IRWS Iain is turning out better than we could have dreamed. He is from her 2011 litter. He is a very handsome boy with remarkable bird sense and hunting instinct. We are constantly amazed at his intelligence and desire to please. Judy is a wonderful and caring breeder. You can trust her dogs to be top notch. We cannot thank her enough.

Last year I was searching for a dog to be my companion and a partner for my wife's English Springer Spaniel. I fell in love with the Irish Red and White Setter. I was so fortunate to find the Laurel Oak web site and Judy Baumgartner. To my surprise there just happen to be a litter on the way. I now have the most wonderful dog and companion I could have ever imagined. He is calm and gentle and so handsome. He is a wonderful partner for my wife's Springer. They both get along so well and love each other so much. He gets along well with everyone and all dogs. Everyone I meet says how calm and gentle he is and yes handsome. Judy asked if I would show him and I agreed. This has been such a wonderful new experience for both of us. We are having he best time and he is progressing at every show. Judy is a great mentor and is always there if I need her for anything. She takes such great care in her breeding and ensures that every puppy has the best home. I believe she is the best Irish Red and White Setter breeder. We are also hunt training and he has such a good nose for birds and great pointing abilities. We are looking forward to the spring hunt tests. I can't say enough about Judy's great breeding; her Irish Red and White Setters are absolutely the best! Thanks Judy!

I have known Judy for about 12 years from her days with Irish Setters, which is my breed. Since then we have enjoyed each others camaraderie at field events, she with her red and whites and me with my Irish. I see her at conformation shows too. She is kind and loves all her dogs which are a part of her family. She is careful where she places her puppies. I consider her a very responsible breeder.

As a competitor, lover & ambassador for my breed, "Weimaraners" for more than 40 years, My husband Todd & I were extremely impressed with Judy & her dogs the first time we met at a hunt test. Not only are they exceptionally beautiful, they show great style & intensity in the field. We have a high regard for the dedication Judy shows to making sure this new AKC breed will continue to improve & become one of the versitile pointing dogs it was intended to be. Judy will surely be acknowledged as one of the first founding contributors to this magnificent breed in America.

After much research my wife and I agreed that an IRWS would be a wonderful addition to our family (two young kids, 3 & 10 and a 6-yr-old German Wire Haired Pointer). I wanted another dog I could hunt with and my wife wanted a soft, mellow tempered sweetheart. We both got just what we wanted. At nine-months, Jack our IRWS from Laurel Oaks is an incredible addition to our family, sweet, happy and showing high promise as a bird dog (I have yet to shoot over him--I will post further updates as he develops as a hunter). Finding a pup of this breed was not an easy task, and we talked with other breeders before discovering Laurel Oaks. Immediately, Judy Baumgartner struck us as a caring breeder who was breeding some of the most beautiful dogs in the country. Her personal attention to finding her pups the best homes was evident from our first our conversation and the steady updates, and pictures made us feel a part of our pup's life from day one (and even before!). We have continued to stay in touch with Judy and feel incredibly grateful for having found her. I cannot think of an adjective worthy of describing just how wonderful these dogs are and, in my opinion, I cannot imagine a better breeder or lineage than the ones that our dog came from (Sean and Cailin). Thank you Judy!!!

Wanting a unique dog as a retirement buddy, I decided upon an Irish Red and White Setter and soon found that they are quite hard to find in the United States. After checking some web sites, I came upon Laurel Oak Setters and learned one of the dogs had a new litter. I contacted Judy Baumgardner and found one of the puppies was still available. Talking with Judy was much like talking to an old friend. She completely made me feel at ease with this new experience of finding and buying a dog online. Judy very much wanted her puppies to go to a good home and after answering her questions, satisfying her need to know that her puppy was going to a good home, my family and I were lucky enough to get a female at 10 weeks. She is not just selling dogs, but works to make the right match, dog to owner and protecting the bred. Judy was also available for any questions I had regarding health, feeding and just about anything under the sun. I wanted to do this right and Judy made it happen. I would recommend Laurel Oak Setters to any one interested in this fine breed. Kacey is a very loving dog with lots of energy. My vet and her staff were fascinated with my unique puppy from the first day. She recently graduated from puppy school and our trainer has been very impressed with her intelligence, temperament and beauty. Judy is an honest and caring breeder and has provided all the AKC certificates and after five months has been available for advice and information to ensure we remain happy dog owners.

I have had the great opportunity to train with Judy Baumgartner and her trio of IRWSs - Cailin, Gracie & Sean. I have to say that I'm very impressed with the breed and with Judy's dogs in particular. As a devoted GSP owner, working with IRWSs has been an interesting & rewarding experience - they have a much different temperament than GSPS - but these dogs can definitely hunt! I'm impressed with their noses and pointing style. And they are "truly Irish" in their demeanor - very happy & devoted. I would strongly recommend that anybody wishing to know more about the breed to work directly with Judy & go see her dogs in action. She's working hard to prove that IRWSs can do it all - both in the show ring & in the field. Keep up the great work, Judy!
