Deutsch Kurzhaar Kennel "vom James River"

vom James River kennel is registered with the Deutsch Kurzhaar Verband (DKV) and breeds only in accordance with the Breeding Regulations of the DKV. Any dog used for breeding by us will, at a minimum, have passed a Solms, AZP, or VGP, be certified free of hip dyspasia, and have a conformation rating of at least SG (Very Good) and for males, have demonstrated sharpness against predators. In addition, any dog used in our breeding program will have an outstanding temperament, natural pointing, retrieving, and tracking instincts, and will have been an early maturing dog.

We believe the Deutsch Kurzhaar is the ultimate versatile hunting dog, and that the Breeding and Testing system of the DKV is the best in the world for consistently producing high quality hunting dogs.

We do not breed on a large scale, in fact, we only have a litter about every two years. We prefer to take our time to closely evaluate our dogs throughout every phase of their training and performance, to make sure we are continually improving our line with each breeding. To us, the "how" is as important as the "what", when it comes to performance. We prefer dogs that hunt in a dynamic fashion, point with great intensity and style, and show enthusiasm for every aspect of their training and hunting.

Our puppies are born in the house and handled daily from birth. We use the BioSensor program to stimulate the pups' nervous and circulatory systems at a young age. This produces dogs which are adaptable to new situations, and therefore show an increased aptitude for learning. We make sure our puppies are highly socialized and temperament tested, and try to match the right puppy to the right owner.

We offer training assistance in any form necessary, and encourage our puppy buyers to test their dogs in the tests of the DKV, through the NADKC. Our dogs are guaranteed to hunt or we will replace the dog with a new puppy.
