About Celtic Farms & Kennels, Inc.
CELTIC FIELD IRISH SETTERS
My granddad told me that an Irish Setter gun dog was like a well-worn double: comfortable and sweet in your hands and joyful at your shoulder. Granddad was right, and we have been breeding Irish Setter gun dogs for 30 years. Only our Celts have ever won an Open All Breed Championship...and they did it twice! We produce dark, smallish sprites which exude class both going and pointing. Bred primarily for brains, so that training is a pleasure; bred secondarily for temperament, their love for humanity is more than an afterthought. Those qualities combine to make a fine gentleman's shooting dog, the canine equivalent of Granddad's double Purdey. We will do our best to match one of our Celts to your home.
In addition to Granddad, Ned LeGrande, founder of the modern Field Irish Setter was my mentor and guide from the beginning, as was Col. Ed Schnettler. When Ned finally retired, he blessed me with most of his gene pool.
I've blended Ned's guys (& beliefs) with those of Granddad and my own ideas, resulting in dogs which consistently:
breed to type;
are exceedingly intelligent;
live to please humans;
have extended attention spans (making them highly trainable);
possess strong pointing instincts;
are extraordinary athletes with excellent foot speed;
are extremely stylish;
males average 45-55 pounds; females 35-45 pounds; and
make perfect companions and fulfill my definition of a "Gentleman's Shooting Dog."
LOCATION: Our entire breeding operation occurs at my home, located about 20 minutes north of Reading, PA and about 1.5 hours northwest of Philadelphia, from which all puppies are sold or shipped. We also train on several farms owned in that area.
In addition, we also own a training facility in North Carolina, where youngsters go to be polished on wild quail. Rob Ecker, a professional trainer, assists in the training or started, "hunting broke" and stead-to-wing-and-shot (finished) gun dogs.
We have puppies and started dogs available now which equal or exceed the above. They make extraordinary companions and top-of-the-line gentlemen's hunting dogs. They are capable of being both your best friend and a brag dog should you hunt or compete.

Best dog ever.
Great family pet.
Submitted by: Maryann on Jun 22, 2014We have two absolutely amazing, friendly, beautiful dogs from Celtic Farms. Paul did an excellent job selecting dogs that would fit well in our family. Casey is now 9 years old, while Kelly is 4. They are best buddies and inseparable. The joy they bring to us is beyond anything we could have hoped for. They love people and are kind, gentle spirits. We just hope they live forever because we can't imagine our family, even with the five of us, without them in it. Thank you, Paul!!
Submitted by: Tim Horning on Dec 09, 2013Our setter Brass is a wonderful dog, he has an amazing point and is extremely patient when on point. He will stare down a squirrel for hours if the squirrel is inclined to hold still that long. He's funny and gentle and we couldn't have asked for a better dog.
