He's an incredible gun-dog/family pet. Loves to hunt pheasants and ducks. He was the first dog I trained myself, and it went swimmingly. Stonefly goldens are bright, extremely eager to please/easy to teach, and outstanding family dogs. He'll bring back limits of ducks and then come home and understand, without a word from me, that my wife's chicken's are off limits. He is everything one could want in a bird dog. I had owned and hunted with two goldens before. They were great family pets, but fairly lost in the field. I also used to spend as much time grooming out burrs as I did hunting over those dogs. Stonefly Goldens are practically self-cleaning. They have a soft, but flat coat. One minute he'll be covered in burrs, and then I'll look a few minutes later and they would all have fallen off somehow as he ran through the grass. It's miraculous! He also sheds very little compared to the "pet" goldens I had in the past. It's almost like a different bred. Their coat, the one thing I preferred about Labs, is no longer a consideration now that I've met these "hunting" goldens. I strongly recommend these dogs. Bring a bird wing when you pick your pup. |
