I have know the Montauk kennel group for over 20 yrs, I'm currently the owner of my second Montauk Chesapeake, both being females
# 1 was Montauk Sassy Jazz
# 2 is Montauk No Stronger then a Sierra

Jazz was with us for 15 yrs AUY5B was her tag, this dog would hunt for 5 or 6 men for 3 to 4 days straight, she never gave up and always sat at waters edge looking for more.

Sierra is also a very strong swimmer with no issues of health, she is now 8 acting like 2, she also will be in the water for hrs for day on end..

What I can say about Montauk Kennels is they are very conscientious of the breed and whom they go to, proper family care is needed for these types of dogs, they go through extensive interviews to insure their dogs go to proper families.
They breed with good blood lines not allowing the bad genes in.

Really I can't say enough about the breed and breeders.
Thank you for keeping the breed in check.

I bought a Chessie puppy from Val last fall (2012) after our old Bulldog died. I used to breed English Mastiffs and have had a number of dogs in the past. I spoke to many breeders, and had a half dozen breeds in mind as I was trying to choose.

The Chessie fit our lifestyle well, but it was Val that gave me most confidence in the breed and her dogs. We saw a few other Chessie breeders before we got to Val and I was not impressed.

The dog that Val chose for us, Porthos, has been one of, if not the best, dogs we've ever had. He is headstrong, just as she said he would be, but he is kind and friendly. He's not a year old yet and he's becoming very protective but without the nasty aggressiveness I worry about. He's good with new people and he's really affectionate and protective of my family.

We spend most of our summers on our boat, so a dog that liked water was a plus. Porthos LOVES the water, again just as Val described. He will run into the bathroom when he hears the shower running.

I love the Chessie breed, but I think that Val is the real champion of the breed. She did not need to sell me a puppy and she spend a ton of time with me answering all my questions, and asking her own to make sure that I got the right breed AND the right puppy.

I've said that Porthos' temperament is simply second to none. I haven't yet said that he is a stunning dog, conformationally. I will probably show him to a Canadian Championship. I expect it will be easy to get and both Porthos and I owe Val that recognition of what a Chessie CAN and SHOULD be.

If Val says she has a puppy for you, then you will be a happy dog owner. Listen to her and she will tell you the good and the bad, the easy and the hard, without any sugar coating, and she has been dead on with every comment.

I knew what I was getting and I got what I wanted. Thank you, Val.

I have known Val and her dogs for 20 years.
They have excelled in the field and in the obedience ring.
Val has a very high standard of breeding and training. She loves what she does and she loves her dogs!
I have been priviledged to own one of her dogs. I bought Triumph when she was around 20 months. Val had already done the hard work of training her for me. Triumph was the best dog I have ever owned.
I just can't say enough good things about the work Val does with her dogs!
