Runyan 88 - New Mexico English Pointer Breeders

Gun dogs have been my favorite pastime for a lifetime. My Dad and brothers enjoyed bird dogs, and so do I. As a profession in the dog business, I owned Runyan 88 kennels in Alaska, racing, selling and training sled dogs from 1980 to 1995. I won the 1985 Yukon Quest and 1989 Iditarod, both 1000 mile races for sled dogs. I was the first musher to win both the Iditarod and Yukon Quest. Recently, others have duplicated this accomplishment, including my good friend, the incredible Lance Mackey. I collaborated with Lance and wrote The Lance Mackey Story, which chronicles his battle with cancer and also his incredible sled dog career. Lance won the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest four times. The book is a best seller in Alaska. Our Runyan 88 kennel was used for developing several high performance dog foods (Wayne's, Kaskco, Amway, to name few.) I did a lot of work improving high performance dog foods by noting how my sled dogs performed. As part of my sled dog life, I made presentations all over the world. On one occassion, I delivered a presentation for a group of pointer enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the National Trial at Ames Plantation in Tennessee. I made the reckless statement that a really good running pointer could be improved by breeding to a top notch sled dog in the pedigree. I almost got laughed out of the hall, but I think I am correct. I now operate a gun dog operation in Gila, New Mexico and offer pups from my Honky Tonk Attitude line at the sire and dam. On my farm, I can start and train pups. I also guide for blues, gamble, and Mearns quail on private ranches. Occassionally, I offer patterdale terrier pups, which are another hobby. So many great dogs are hunting in the field, but I just got locked onto Honky Tonk Attitude breeding because the offspring have such a driven personality, but are still biddable and trainable. My stud dog Duke is an incredible bird dog and an unfailing retriever. Last winter, I got on a duck hunting binge. It takes me four minutes to walk from my house to the duck blind on the Gila River and Duke was just unbelievable in the blind, then retrieving ducks to hand. The mother of offered pups is Tess, also Honky Tonk Attitude line. She is not as aggressive as Duke but she does all the right things, including natural back, solid on point, and driven desire to retrieve.
