We acquired our first Espagnuel Breton -'Gus' in 1997. He became an excellent hunter and loyal companion. Our sister and brother-in-law acquired 'Monique' and that breeding led to our female 'Ruby'. Our dogs have hunted pheasants, sharptails, quail, chukkars, mountain grouse, sage hens, and waterfowl! We believe French Brittany's are an outstanding breed of hunters; They are fun, energetic, loyal members of our family.
Update - June 2009
We have two additional Espagnuel Breton family members. Andy is Ruby's (and Topperlyn Kennels's D'Art) pup born 6/12/2008. He is a gentle, yet energetic dog. Andy hunts well, handles easily, and LOVES the water! We look forward to his first 'real' season of hunting.
Josie (1/29/2009) is our new female pup, acquired from Galena Kennels (Tom McGowan, Reno, NV). She is a beautiful liver-orange-white tri-color. She immediately established herself as 'one of the gang'. Josie appears to have quite a 'nose' which she uses all the time. No doubt she will become an outstanding hunter.
Future plans include a breeding with Andy and Josie once they are OFA certified. We expect our next litter of pups will be sometime in 2011.
Update August 2, 2011
Both of our breeding dogs (Andy and Josie) are OFA certified.
Josie has suddenly become the 'queen' of pointing dogs - her natural instincts have kicked in, and we're extremely pleased to see her stalking and pointing the birds in our yard. Only 4 more weeks till bird season Josie and Andy!
Update September 15, 2011
Josie has been bred to Andy - if she is pregnant, pups will be due Oct. 29. We will have her vet-checked soon.
Meanwhile, Josie had a successful opening day of bird season - she retrieved her first sage hen this month!
We plan to breed Josie one last time this fall - likely in October - which would give us pups around Christmas. We have orders for two pups at this time - please contact us if you might be interested in one of these pups.
AUGUST 25, 2014
Josie has come into heat 6-7 weeks earlier than expected - should be breeding this week.
Josie had 7 pups, born November 3, 2014. There are 3 male pups still available - 2 are orange-white and one is liver-white.
Thanks to everyone for their inquiries about our puppies. All of our pups are sold. We are not planning any additional litters for Josie. We are considering a future acquisition of a new female pup to breed................that will be some time down the road. We have enjoyed raising French Brittany pups and we have enjoyed our 'French Brittany' conversations with all of you! Thanks Again! :)
