Otter Creek Kennel - Iowa German Shorthaired Pointer Breeders
About Otter Creek Kennel
Otter Creek Kennel is located just off I-380 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Just minutes from Pheasant Hunting country, our goal has always been to raise superior pointing dogs coupled with the ability to track the game after it hits the ground. Since we also duck hunt here, we needed a versatile dog that could retrieve in the water as well as in the field. Marking is a very important trait that we strive to look for when we plan breedings. We also want non- aggressive behavior dogs, but then one with plenty of prey drive. Train-ability, intelligence, and the most important trait, a great pet in the house. We encourage all buyers of our puppies to raise the dogs in the home, along with the family. We know for a fact that you end up with a better dog! Raised in the kennel, they compete for your affection. Raised in the home, they know they have it. We test in NAVHDA, where we have received 2 breeder awards. We also have our lst ever Versatile Champion, just this past year! We also test in NADKC, which is the German equivalent of NAVHDA. We average 2 litters per year. We feed Pro Plan Performance. We have two different lineage lines that we pursue at Otter Creek. One is an older Wildburg line that we have perpetuated since 1995. The other is full German, using KS Orson vom Pottsiepen, KS Kristan vom Pottsiepen, and KS Graf vom Vehner Moor, which all tye back to the Hege-Haus & Wasserschling lines. We have all colors in the GSP pallet; Solid Liver, Solid Black, Liver Roan, Black Roan, Liver Patched Ticked, & Black Patched Ticked. We do not advise buying a puppy based on color. We would rather take your needs and match you up with the right puppy. Deposits are required. Prices range from $800 to $1500. A Puppy Purchase Agreement must be signed by you and we offer a Lifetime Guarantee on our dogs, with very few stipulations. Thanks for considering us. Have a great day! Otter Creek Kennel,
I've had Otter Creek OB Farica, whom I call Lexi, for 2 years now. She is not only an amazing hunter but a best friend. She slept with me every night as my college roommate. Her amazing disposition along with a strong hunting desire has made Lexi the best dog I have ever had. It only took her a few times out in the field before she got the hang of hunting. By 7 months old she was out-hunting my friends older, experienced shorthairs. She is not only an amazing upland hunter but she loves to duck hunt as well. Otter Creek kennel is a first class operation and there is no doubt that Lexi wont be my last dog from here. If anyone has any further questions or needs a reference before deciding to get a pup from Otter Creek, feel free to email me. firstname.lastname@example.org

I purchased a male pup from otter creek kennels in 2001. He is the brother to Sam who is mentioned above. My dog name is Blaze or Otter Creeks OB Blazin. He scored a 108 prize II in the natural ability test. Great dog. The tempermant and the way he minds is incredible. He is a house dog and is an avid hunter in the field. I would recommend getting your pup from this kennel they are first class. In fact my next pup will probably come from Otter Creek.

I purchased my first and only gun dog from Otter Creek Kennels 7 years ago, Otter Creek's OB Bearen (Sam).
He has always been a very social dog loving our family and friends. He's always been a house dog and yes house dogs can hunt! Sam earned a Prize I 112 pts. in his Natural Ability Test and has been a great all around gun dog with lots of natural ability and prey drive.
I highly recommend Otter Creek Kennels for your next family/gun dog.

We purchased a started dog, Cooper, about 4 years ago. He has been a wonderful addition to our family. He is a house dog with exceptional hunting ability. I have been most impressed with his behavior in relation to our 17 month son who loves to poke, pull, and pet him. Cooper just takes it all in stride.

Boomer became a part of our family in April of 2001 and oh what a thrill. Boomer was my first pointer so I'm not sure who trained who but I found the process of training to be nothing short of a pleasure. Boomer was easy to train in the home and in the field. I don't hunt near as much as I would like to, however, Boomer is always ready to go and I have never been disappointed...but both myself and my hunting buddies have been both amazed and pleasantly surprised at Boomers performance on various occasions. It's fair to say that I have been around other more impressive bird dogs in the field but I would put Boomer up against any of them when it comes to his temperament in the home. Boomer has been in the house from the day we brought him home. To this day he is the first to greet me when I come home and after a long day running the property you will find him curled up, head on a pillow at our feet. We regularly receive compliments on Boomer and his gentleness. Perhaps the best thing I can say about Boomer is that if we knew tomorrow that we could go out and get another one just like him...we would in a heartbeat.

I got a 16 week old puppy from Otter Creek Kennel about 22 months ago we call Chopper.
At first he was very shy. I travel in a motorhome in my work and he wasn't real sure about that after coming from the kennel.
Chopper was already house broken. We had a few accidents, but he was very easy to train.
In a short time Chopper got used to people coming and going and the noise at work.Seeing new people is a pleasure for Chopper now and he sees new people as a new friend to meet and greet.
About a year after i got Chopper he had not been hunted yet as i had had a stroke and we were not able to get out to hunt. We went for a walk in Iowa and he was pointing and hunting. He was out of sight for a short time and when he came back he had a pheasant rooster!
In short I will buy another puppy from Otter Creek Kennels when the time comes.
Great dogs, great temperment, great family members, and great hunters.

5/31/08 I am so pleased to be able to give a big thumbs up for Otter Creek Kennel. We had been visiting kennels and puppies on and off for a year looking for a place we felt really good about. Otter Creek put our search to an end. We are now the proud owners of a beautiful female GSP. We could see the quality breeding in this pup right away. We don't know yet as far as her natural hunnting ability because she is still quite young, but her temperament is excellent. She is learning her manners quickly (especially with out 5 year old poodle, Bella). I was very impressed with the professionalism, cleanliness of the kennels and quality of care shown for the dogs. Adult dogs were clean, well behaved and QUIET. Thanks Otter Creek! Joyce Murphy Taylor Ridge, IL
